Members of the Nigerian Senate have announced partial closure of activities as part of its preventive measures to prevent an outbreak of covid-19 in the the National Assembly.
The implications of this announcement which takes effect from Tuesday, 24th March, 2020 is that, the upper legislative chamber has suspended all public hearing till further notice.
This was made known on Thursday by President of the Senate, Ahmad. Lawan at the end of a closed session.
He noted that the Senate gallery will remain closed to the public till further notice including excursions from schools and other organizations .”
The new measure by the Senate came barely 24 hours after the House of Representatives reached a decision to restrict visitors to the National Assembly complex.
The confirmation of five new cases making a total of seven in Lagos on Wednesday; and another one from Ekiti making a total of eight has also resulted in the ban of all public gatherings exceeding fifty people,and closure of schools which takes effect from Monday 23rd March 2020.
