The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the sum of 13 billion naira intervention fund for pest control for twelve states in Nigeria.
The States are Kano ,Sokoto,Kebbi,Zamfara, Katsina,Jigawa Bauchi,Gombe, Adamawa Taraba Borno And Yobe States.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Sabo Nanono made this known to Journalists during the launch of the 2020 dry season farming in Kebbi State.
The minister said the move is to ensure uninterrupted agricultural activities and control trans boundary pests during the 2020 farming season.
The Minister said in recent times
Quelea birds, Locusts and Grasshoppers have been ravaging farms in East Africa, some northern regions of Nigeria inclusive.
Nanono said the measure is to ensure the possibility of spillover of huge locust swarm into the entire country is eradicated.
He emphasized that the present administration is very determined to fight any menace that would truncate the tremendous success recorded so far in the Agricultural sector
He added that the choice of Kebbi State for the launch is deliberate, in view of the extensive agricultural activities in the state and the immense cooperation and collaboration of the state government in the implementation of agricultural interventions over the years.
In his remarks, the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his vision and people orientated policies in the Agricultural sector which he said, would ensure job creation, food security and boost the economy for the betterment of Nigerians.
