The Nigeria government has handed over the National Theatre complex in Lagos to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and banks under the aegis of the Bankers’ Committee to commence the renovation and to upgrade it to world class event and creative industry center.
The complex which was officially handed over by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed to The Governor Central Bank Of Nigeria Godwin Emefiele is expected to be completion within 18 months.
Godwin Emefiele said that the National Theatre and the complementary facilities including the creative industry and other facilities that will be built along will help in unleashing the creative talents of Nigeria’s youths across multiple sectors.
The CBN Governor added The Creative Center, which comprises Music, Movies, Fashion and ICT hub can be a key source of growth for our economy creating up to One Million jobs for our teaming Youths.
For the realization of the project,the Bankers Committee intend to support the creative venture with about N25 billion of initial funding.
The Minister of information Lai Mohammed noted that no one is hijacking the national theatre as it remains the nation national heritage.
President Muhammadu Buhari had in October 2019 approved the renovation of the building and its premises.
