DOCTORS IN THE EMPLOYMENT OF THE LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT KNOWN AS MEDICAL GUILD HAVE EMBARKED ON A THREE DAY WARNING STRIKE.
THE STRIKE WHICH TAKES EFFECT FROM 8AM MONDAY 13TH OF JULY IS TO LAST TILL 16TH OF JULY 2020 .
MEMBERS OF THE GUILD WORKING AT THE VARIOUS COVID-19 TREATMENT CENTRES ARE EXCLUDED FROM THE STRIKE.
THE STRIKE IS COMING AFTER THE EXPIRATION OF A 21 DAY ULTIMATUM AND ANOTHER 14 DAYS WHICH WAS GIVEN TO THE LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT TO ADDRESS THE FOLLOWING ISSUES
1.Non payment of the COVID-19 hazard allowance.
2.Challenges in the response especially as it concerns testing capacity for Health care workers and patients in hospitals.
2. Reducing availability of PPEs in isolation centres and hospitals.
3.Non inclusion of the Guild and other HCW unions in decision making with attendant increase in HCW infection, morbidity and mortality.
4. *Non implementation of MOU between the federal government and national associations/unions of health workers by the Lagos State Government on health insurance , hazard allowances and other palliatives for health workers*
5. Acute shortage of doctors Among others.
According to the Chairman of the Medical Guild Oluwajimi Sodipo ,the congress will reconvene after the three day warning strike to access the level of success and plan the next line of action.
The Doctors also Called on the Government to see the recent plans of 58 Doctors to travel abroad as a wake up call to formulate policies that will attract Health workers to stay at home.
