HOW LACK OF ACCESS TO HEALTH FACILITIES HAS LEFT PERSONS WITH DISABILITY EXCLUDED FROM HEALTH CARE SERVICES IN NIGERIA AMIDST THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

THE UNITED NATIONS CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITY SAYS THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF HEALTH CARE SERVICES WITHOUT DISCRIMINATION.

DESPITE THIS PROVISION, SUCH PERSONS HAVE CONTINUED TO ENCOUNTER CHALLENGES TO HEALTH CARE DUE TO INABILITY TO ACCESS HEALTH INFRASTRUCTURE AND TRANSPORTATION, A SITUATION THAT HAS WORSEN WITH THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

TO CORRECT THIS ANOMALY, STAKEHOLDERS ARE CALLING FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF POLICIES TO PROVIDE FOR PROPER INTERVENTION AND INCLUSIVENESS.
