The first case of the delta variant of coronavirus has been confirmed In Nigeria.
The Head of communications NCDC Yahya Disu in a statement says the variant was detected in a traveller to Nigeria following the routine travel test required of all international travellers and genomic sequencing at the NCDC reference laboratory, Abuja.
The statement noted that given the transimissibility of the Delta variant the agency is urging all Nigerians yo ensure strict adherence to public health and social measures in place.
The delta variant is recognised by the world health organisation as a variant of concern.
The variant has also been linked to a surge in cases in countries where it is dominant strain in circulation.
The New Variant is coming at a time when Nigeria has recorded a spike in the number of cases recorded across the Country in the past few days
