Edo State born Legendary Highlife Singer Trumpeter Flutist and Writer Sir Victor Uwaifo has died at the age of 80.

The death of the one time Commissioner for Arts Culture and Tourism Edo State was confirmed On Saturday Evening

Sir Victor Uwaifo born March 1st 1941 in Benin City began his music career in the 1960s and he developed the Akwete rhythm sound.

He became popular with his hit song Joromi in 1996 and was recognized as the most educated performing music legend musical instrument inventor artist worldwide.

The late Uwaifo who marked his eigtieth birthday earlier this year in grand style had expressed gratitude to God for sparing his life in 1969 from being electrocuted at a night club in Warri Delta State.

Uwaifo was in his lifetime the first Nigerian professional singer to be awarded with the honour of National Merit Member of the Order of Niger (MON).

He has to his credit songs like Joromi, Suku Suku, Anytime, Mami Water, Change Lover among other songs.
