A 21 Storey Building has Collapsed on Gerrald Road Ikoyi Lagos with Scores of people are trapped.
The twenty One uncompleted Storey building collapsed monday afternoon.
The building located at high brow Gerrald road Ikoyi, lagos according to eye witness crumbled under the heavy weight at about 2 pm .
Some emergency responders rushed to the scene of the incident where they battled frantically to rescue the trapped victims.
General Manager, LASEMA, Femi Osanyintolu has however not given the number of casualties involved as rescue operation is still ongoing as of the time of sending this report.
It’s However Worthy of note that the ikoyi collapsed building was sealed after ignoring engineering warnings
there are indications that the collapsed twenty-one story gerrard terraces belonging to fourscore heights limited had no structural integrity, a reason the engineers pulled out of the project .
A letter of withdrawal dated february 20, 2020 was written by murtala olawale, managing director of prowess engineering limited to femi osibona of fourscore heights, the owners of the building .
in the letter, prowess engineering notified that there was non compliance with the specifications provided by it for the structural integrity of the building .
the withdrawal letter said “we can guarantee the integrity of the first two buildings and also works done up to the fourth floor of the third building supervised by us provided specifications have been met in terms of required concrete strength.
“this we do not have control over as we do not have the concrete cube test result for each stage of the building till date”.
in withdrawing their involvement in the project, the engineers went further to state that they are not taking responsibilities for any other construction error that may have occurred over time on the project.
it ended the letter by requesting that its company name and logo be removed from the project board and also notified all necessary approving authorities of their withdrawal from the project.
Perhaps acting on the concerns raised, governor of lagos state babajide sanwo-olu in july of the same year ordered the sealing of the building
it is not clear how work resumed on the project site after that action
