NEW NAIRA NOTES, SCARCITY BITES HARDER
Scarcity of new Naira notes have persisted making this difficult for Lagos Residents and environ to meet their financial obligations.This is despite directives by the central Bank of Nigeria that Banks should begin to pay customers over the counter.
Most Banks in Lagos and Some parts of Ogun State have failed to comply with the Directive.
Some Bank Customers who spoke to our crew Saturday morning said Some Commercial banks who complied with the Directive are only paying between One thousand and five thousand naira over the Counter in total disregard to the minimum of twenty thousand naira as directed by the Apex bank .
Most worrisome is that even the old notes have also become difficult for people to access.
Most POS operators are beginning to take advantage of the situation to exploit customers.
I’m most places visited by our crew , customers are made to pay as much as #700 to withdraw #5,000 , And and #1000 for #10.000 and so forth.
There are also speculations in some quarters the Bank Officials are selling the new Naira notes
With a few days left for the new expiration date,one wonders what will happen if the situation continues this way.
