The Katsina State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, says it has busted a new strategy employed by drug dealers, using their wives to sell the substances.
It called on parents to take drug integrity tests seriously, for their would-be sons-in-law.
The commander of the agency, Mohammed Ibrahim, said this to newsmen when a 45-year-old housewife, Rabi Musa, was arrested in connection with an incident in Katsina State, revealing that divorce cases in the state are drug-related.
45 years old Rabi Musa, who is one of the accused lives at Sabon Titin Kwado, within the Katsina metropolis, and is married to one Nura Sani now at large.
She was arrested with 3kg of cannabis sativa, which she was allegedly assisting her husband to sell, with the connivance of her sister, Zainab Musa, and her husband, Suleiman Umar, who both live at Barhim Estate.
Commander Muhammed Ibrahim said, the arrest of Rabi Musa, made it possible to arrest other accomplices, with her husband now at large but promising to grab him soon.
He said the trio are currently under investigation and would be prosecuted soon at the Federal High Court in Katsina.
Ibrahim also used the medium to sensitize parents and advocated for drug integrity results to be presented by would-be sons-in-law, before marriages are done, rather than be blinded by wealth.
Apart from Drug Reduction And Consumption War, Commander Ibrahim further said his men, during a stop and search operation, apprehended 4 suspects in a vehicle with expired ammunition, who were later found to be car snatchers.
They were found in a car belonging to a senior police officer.
He further added that a few days ago, another 3 suspects were nabbed along the Kano-Katsina highway, with a suspected car stolen from Jos, of which the occupants were organized criminals made up of 3 different artisans.
Speaking on her involvement, the 45-year-old Rabi Musa, in a sober mood, confessed to committing the crime, but said she was only carrying out her husband’s instructions.
She also pleaded for mercy and advised fellow wives and parents to be careful, about who they get married to.
