NIGERIA BEGINS COLLABORATION WITH CANADIAN GOVERNMENT TO ERADICATE MONKEY POX

The Nigerian Institute Of Medical Research (NIMR) has started a collaboration with the Canada institute of health and research to explore the use of small Pox Medication and vaccine for the treatment and prevention of monkey Pox .

Speaking During the project Laugh in Lagos on Wednesday 5th April 2023, The Director Of Nigerian Institute Of Medical Research Professor Babatunde Salako And other the researchers also called for a re-enactment of the NIMR Act from being a research Institution to a health funding institute so that The Country will be better positioned to address its health challenges and deal with emerging infectious Diseases.

Monkey Pox is a viral zoonotic disease that seems to be increasing in outbreak since the seventies when it started.

In the last two years,there has been an upsurge of the virus in most parts of the world.

It is To tackle the upsurge and mitigate its further spread that is informing this collaboration between Nigeria and the Canadian Government for improve study about the virus

The CAMP project is also going to look at the effect of small Pox medicine and vaccine for the treatment and eradication of monkey Pox across the world

The outcome of this collaboration will no doubt improve on public health outcome and improved health systems across these countries
