West Yorkshire born British Singer Songwriter Edward Christopher Sheeran popularly known as Ed Sheeran can now heave a sigh of relief as he has won the Marvin Gaye “Thinking Out Loud” plaigiarism case against him.
A Manhattan New York City United States Jury Thursday May 4th 2023 found Ed Sheeran not liable for copyright infringement.
The British singer was sued by the heirs of Ed Townsend, the songwriter who composed the 1973 slow jam classic “Let’s Get It On” with Marvin Gaye.
They accused the singer to have copied the anthem, harmonic progressions as well as the melodic and rhythmic elements of Marvin Gaye’s hit classic in Sheeran’s 2014 song Thinking Out Loud.”
The lawsuit against the “BOAT” singer which was initially filed in 2017 took six years to finally reach a Manhattan Federal Court.
Ed Sheeran vehemently denied plagiarising the song “Let’s Get It On” as his lawyers had argued that the song used common constructions found in many pop tracks.
A couple of days ago Ed Sheeran had vowed to quit music if found guilty of copyright violations.
