The World Health Organization WHO says the COVID19 is no longer a global health emergency disease
The Director General Tedro Ghebreyesus made this known on Friday after an emergency committee meeting of the WHO
The deadly virus which forced the world into a lockdown, claiming over four million lives, was declared a public health emergency on January 30, 2020 with the status of a pandemic
According to statistics from the WHO Dash board, the covid-19 death rate slowed from a peak of more than one hundred people per week in January 2021 to just over 3,500 in April 2023. Much of the progress have been aided by widespread vaccination efforts
With this declaration, governments across the world are expected to transition from emergency mode to living with virus
