Former deputy senate President Ike Ekweremadu has been sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison by a British court
His wife Beatrice got a sentence of four years and six months while their associate Obinna Obeta, a medical doctor based in the UK was sentenced to ten years in prison and has had his medical licence suspended.
The sentence followed their conviction on charges of organ trafficking
The case began last year after a young man, David Nwamini reported to the Metropolitan police that he was brought to the UK by the Ekweremadu’s to be used as a kidney donor for their sick daughter, but was abandoned after tests revealed his organ was not a match
They had all pleaded not guilty.
