Katsina State Government through its Primary Healthcare Agency, SPHCA, says it is set to vaccinate 2.9 million children between the ages of 0 to 59 months against the polio virus, across the 34 local government areas of the state.
The Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr Shamsudden Yahaya, who disclosed this shortly after leading his team on an advocacy visit to the Emirs of Katsina and Daura, assured that no child, even in the terrorist-prone areas, will be left behind.
Nigeria in the year 2020 was certified polio-free, but with the wild and circulating variant poliovirus affecting some neighbouring African countries like Sudan, the state government and other partners deem it fit to take proactive measures to protect children in the state.
To effectively ensure there is total compliance with the activity, billed to commence on Saturday, May 13, the State Primary Healthcare Agency in collaboration with other partners, visited the two Emirs of Katsina, Abdulmumin Usman, and his Daura counterpart, Umar Farouq, to solicit their support, which they gave.
The executive secretary of the agency, Dr Shamsudeen Yahaya, said to achieve the aim, 35,000 workers have been engaged, while dividing the activity and state into 2, for effective coverage.
He also assured that all strategies have been put in place, to ensure that no child among the targeted 2.9 million will be left out, including the terrorist-prone areas.
Other health partners in the state gave their commitment to working with the state’s primary healthcare agency, to achieve full coverage.
The vaccines to be administered include, factional doses of inactivated polio 1virus vaccine, FIPV, Novel oral poliomyelitis vaccine, NOPV, and that for the routine immunization integrated campaign.
