The Federal Govt has dispatched assorted food items to Nigerian embassy in conflict-ridden sudan to cushion the effect of food scarcity for stranded Nigerians awaiting to be airlifted from Port sudan to Nigeria.
The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA said the supply of the items became neccessary following the food shortage in the camp while the evacuation is underway.
The Director general of the Agency, Mustapha Ahmed noted that The items consist of 100 bags of 10 kg rice, 50 bags of 10kg beans, 10 cartons of seasoning, 50 cartons of spaghetti and 5 bags of iodized salt.
Ahmed further explained that the evacuation exercise continues as efforts are being made to engage more Nigerian airlines in fast track airlifting of Nigerian citizens that are willing and have been profiled to be transported back to Nigeria due to the unfortunate conflict in Sudan.
The items were airlifted on Thursday to Port Sudan by Tarco Aviation which brought 123 stranded Nigerians to Nnamdi Azikwe International airport in Abuja.
The latest arrival has brought the total number of evacuated stranded Nigerians to 2,246 in 12 different flights.
