The National Association of Resident Doctors has declared a five-day warning strike effective Wednesday May 17, 2023, to press for the immediate increment in the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, amounting to 200 per cent of the current gross salary of doctors and new allowances.
President of the association Emeka orji who said this at a news briefing explained that since January till date no meeting has held between the association and the federal government while no major steps have been taken to resolve the issues raised by doctors in the country.
Orji told the conference that the strike may become indefinite if nothing is done within the period of the warning strike to pay them their 2023 Medical Residency Training Fund as agreed between both parties at a meeting convened by the Federal Ministry of Health.
Other demands by the doctors include immediate commencement of payment of all salary arrears owed members, including 2014, 2015 and 2016 arrears, as well as consequential adjustment of the minimum wage.
The resident doctors say the issue of brain drain in the nation is worrisome and must be tackled.
