The Director General of the Nigerian Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) Ifedayo Adetifa has cautioned The Media practitioners and individuals against reports capable off causing panic .

Reacting to the ongoing reports about the Covid-19 Subvariant, the NCDC Boss in a press statement urged people to act responsibly by sharing only Varified information.

According to The statement,no case of the reported variant Has been identified in Nigeria For Now.

The recently discovered descendants of the Omicron Variant of the SARS CoV 2 Virus named EG.5 and BA.86 according to the statement as at the 7th of August 2023 been found in Fifty One Countries including , South Africa,China, The Republic Of Korea, Japan, Canada,United Kingdom, United States of America, Australia, France, Singapore and Others.

Unlike previous variants of Sax Cov 2, the new variant comes with no symptoms, but a few people who manifest Symptoms, Joint Pain, Headache, General weakness,Loss of Appetite , Pneumonia and sore throat are common with them.

The World Health Organization ( WHO) has described it as a variant Under Monitoring because of It’s multiple genetic difference from it’s ancestor BA.2 and XBB Derived SARS CoV 2 Variants.

The Director General of the Nigerian Centre For Disease Control NCDC Ifedayo Adetifa has however advised Nigerians to maintain good hygiene and relevant safety precautions to stay safe as the NCDC Covid-19 Technical working committee is closely monitoring Covid-19 Epidemiology in Local, Regional and Continental levels
