GOSPEL CORNER: FOR HE SATISFIES THE THIRSTY SOUL AND FILLS THE HUNGRY SOUL WITH GOOD PSALM 107:9, TLB

25/10/23

JOEL OSTEEN MINISTRIES
Today’s Word

Today’s Scripture
For he satisfies the thirsty soul and fills the hungry soul with good.
Psalm 107:9, TLB

ARE YOU THIRSTY?
Just as God gave you a natural instinct to drink water to maintain your life, He also put a spiritual thirst in you to see your dreams fulfilled and to pursue goals. But when we’ve gone through disappointments and setbacks, it’s easy to lose our thirst.

Today’s Scripture says that if you’re going to see good things—healing, breakthroughs, and favor—you have to stay thirsty. That means you have to keep believing for your dreams, keep expecting new doors to open, keep declaring favor over your children, keep speaking promises over your health. God didn’t put a dream in your heart that He can’t bring to pass. There’s not a problem you’re in that He can’t solve. The question is, Are you thirsty?

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
“Father, thank You for the thirst You put in me to see my dreams fulfilled and to pursue the right goals. Thank You that I can live my life passionately, with zeal in my heart to become all You created me to be. I believe that You will satisfy me with good things. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

SECTION TWOpp

When you remember how Jesus willingly came to save you and suffered for your healing at the cross, it will cast out every fear of not receiving healing from Him.

That’s what partaking of the Holy Communion is about. When you hold the bread in your hand, simply remember how Jesus’ body was broken at the cross so that yours may be healed and whole. Say, “Lord Jesus, thank You for bearing my condition on Your own body at the cross. When the lashes fell across Your back, my condition died. It has no right to linger in my body!”

Likewise, when you partake of the cup, remember that Jesus shed His blood to save you. Say, “Jesus, thank You for Your shed blood that has washed away my sins and made me righteous. Because I am righteous in Your sight, healing belongs to me. I receive Your healing and resurrection life for my body right now.”

Beloved, remember the Lord and partake your way to divine health!

THE ROLE OF COMMUNITY PHARMACISTS IN TCAM PRACTICE BY LIVY-ELCON EMEREONYE

24/10/23

The role of Community Pharmacists in TCAM practice by Livy-Elcon Emereonye

According to the World Health Organization, medical practice is classified into three namely: Orthodox or Conventional Medicine, Traditional Medicine (TM), and Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). Natural Medicine is a combination of Traditional Medicine (TM) with Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). In other words, Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine (TCAM) is Natural Medicine.

From the above, one can say that there are basically two types of medicines: Orthodox Medicine and Natural Medicine. An unbiased marriage between the two is what is called Integrative Medicine.

Globally, there is an awakened consciousness in the practice of Natural medicine, and Nigeria is not left out in this trend. The Nigeria land mass with its rich bio-flora and biodiversity are of immense advantage.

The philosophy of Natural Medicine (TCAM) is different from that of Orthodox Medicine. The therapeutic substances used in Orthodox Medicine are called medicines (drugs), but in Natural Medicine therapeutic substances are called remedies. Differences also exist in the methods of production and administration of medicines and remedies.

Whatever the case, the patient is not only the target but the end user of both medicines and remedies. This calls for caution and utmost care. There is a need for standardization and proper regulations.

Natural medicine is not just broad; the opportunities therein are huge and the same goes with the challenges and risks. Thus, the need for adequate training and proper regulation bearing in mind that quacks exist in every practice and errors can occur in every human endeavour. This can be minimized or mitigated with a functional standard operation procedure.

The community pharmacy is the most accessible health facility in the world. Activities in the community pharmacy are geared towards health promotion, disease prevention and therapeutic management through pharmaceutical care. It is the centre for rational drug therapy through incisive drug audit.

A community pharmacy by operation may include a community-based pharmacy traditional retail setting, a retail pharmacy operating out of both large and small chains or grocery stores, an outpatient pharmacy found within a health systems, a federally qualified health centre, a primary care clinic, compounding pharmacy that prepare medications for patients who require unique dosing or modified formulations, and a specialty pharmacy where patients receive outpatient care for complex medication therapies. Whatever the type, the community pharmacist makes the community pharmacy.

The community pharmacist is the most accessible healthcare professional. Among other things, he provides personalized advice about health issues and medicines when needed, sometimes without the need for an appointment, and oftentimes at no cost. A competent community pharmacist is passionate and dedicated to duty with focus on the patient’s wellbeing. This is an opportunity nay a blessing everyone should explore and enjoy without delay or hindrance.

As a drug expert, the primary role of the community pharmacist is to fill prescription, review and detect medication errors as well as recommend and dispense over the counter drugs (OTCs).

The expanded role of a community pharmacist geared towards patient safety include among others to: process prescriptions, check for drug interactions, dispense medications, prepare medications, dispose medications, counsel patients, provide advice, promote healthy lifestyle, and engage in public health programmes.

The roles of a community pharmacist in patient safety has been summarized in

the rights to describe the steps that lead to safe medication use through the right dose of the right medication taken by the right patient at the right time and by the right route for the right indication and right duration. This is the summary of Rational Drug Therapy, and going further, each part of the medication use process may contain different numbers and types of “rights” whose expansion authenticates the indispensable role of the pharmacist in the healthcare team. For example, in the community pharmacy setting, outcomes like the right education, right monitoring, right documentation, and right drug formulation are functions that can only be done properly by the pharmacist, so to safeguard the health of the people, these rights must apply in TCAM remedies.

The marketing, distribution, dispensing, and even administration of TCAM remedies are key areas community pharmacies and the community pharmacist can play a very important role.

Another area where the “trained and certified” Community pharmacist can play important, if not an indispensable role, is in patient counseling.

The monitoring and reporting of possible interactions: remedy-remedy interaction, remedy-food interaction, remedy-drug interaction, as well as adverse events reporting of TCAM remedies are specialized roles of community pharmacists.

The therapeutic role of the pharmacist is required to establish and review standardized dosing information: dosage, frequency and duration for TCAM remedies especially those administered orally with emphasis on pregnant women and children.

Furthermore, the area of Research and Development in TCAM is a gold mine begging to be explored. ACPN and PSN should liaise with Research Institutes and Universities to carry out more research on our “bio-flora”.

The concept and philosophy of “From Farm to Pharmacy (F2P)” should be embraced and maximized by Community Pharmacists. The opportunity therein is huge. The economic and health benefits are endless.

Being the healthcare professional visited most frequently and seen most often by patients and patient relatives, the community pharmacist is in a vintage position to play a vital role in the continued healthcare and check-ups for patients for optimum health through Orthodox or Natural medicines approach using allopathic drugs or TCAM remedies.

As usually, abuse is inevitable where value is not known, and where the right professionals shy away from their responsibilities, charlatans will take over.

Therefore, there is a need for the rational distribution, dispensing and use of TCAM remedies by trained pharmacists in registered premises.

In conclusion, the regulation of the production of TCAM remedies and products should remain with PCN and NAFDAC while TCAM Council when signed into law should regulate the training and practice of TCAM.

GOSPEL CORNER: THINK OF JOSEPH. HE WAS THROWN IN A PIT AND SOLD INTO SLAVERY BY HIS OWN BROTHERS. BUT EVEN AS A SLAVE, HE DEVELOPED HIS SKILLS AND WAS SO VALUABLE THAT HE WAS PUT IN CHARGE OF HIS MASTER’S WHOLE HOUSEHOLD.

24/10/23

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

The LORD was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master.
Genesis 39:2, NLT

KEEP RISING
In the Scripture, many heroes of the faith started out at the very bottom. Think of Joseph. He was thrown in a pit and sold into slavery by his own brothers. But even as a slave, he developed his skills and was so valuable that he was put in charge of his master’s whole household. When he was falsely accused and put into prison, he was so valuable there that they put him in charge of the whole prison. When Pharaoh needed someone to run the country during the famine, he didn’t choose his department head. He chose Joseph, a prisoner, a slave. Why? Joseph developed his skills where he was. He asked God for wisdom and offered solutions for problems. His gifts made room for him, and he was always rising to the top.

There’s never an excuse to not keep rising. It doesn’t matter if you don’t like your current job or if other people don’t treat you right. God is saying, “It’s time to get out of the pit. It’s time to rise to the top.”

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
“Father, thank You for the gifts and talents that You have given me. Thank You for calling me to keep developing my skills and being my best in whatever I do. I choose to be a blessing no matter what my situation is, knowing You are causing me to rise to the top. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

SECTION TWO

What mental movies are you playing in your head today? Are they thoughts of defeat and despair or thoughts of victory and favor? Faith is simply saying what God says about you and seeing what God sees in you and your situation.

It takes a thought to heal a thought. Unlike the world, which teaches you to empty your mind to achieve peace, God’s way is to fill your mind with fresh, powerful, and redeeming thoughts.

The apostle Paul tells us, “Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise” (Phil. 4:8 NLT).

So it’s not just trying to blot out bad thoughts with your willpower. It takes a thought to replace a thought. It takes a right belief to replace a wrong belief. You need God’s truth to replace the enemy’s lies that have kept you in bondage.

My friend, if a wrong, bad, or negative thought is lodged in your mind today and you can’t seem to shake it, stop trying! Perhaps you’re lying in a hospital bed and can’t help but think of the worst-case scenario. You’re attempting to suppress it, but it’s not working.

Well, stop! Stop trying to erase it from your mind. That just won’t work. What you need to do is replace that destructive thought with a thought that’s from God. That’s the only way to deal with a wrong thought and begin the healing process.

Start to meditate on truths such as, “Surely Jesus has borne my sicknesses and carried my pains. The chastisement for my wholeness fell upon Him, and by His stripes I am healed. With long life He will satisfy me” (Isa. 53:4–5, Ps. 91:16). Begin to play mental movies of yourself getting well, being discharged from the hospital, having fun with your kids, or going on a nice holiday!

GOSPEL CORNER: THEREFORE THERE IS NOW NO CONDEMNATION FOR THOSE WHO ARE IN CHRIST JESUS.”

23/10/23

Today, I want to talk about how you can have a victorious thought life. My friend, the solution to temptations, sinful desires, and thoughts is found in the very first verse of Romans 8: “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

(By the way, some Bible translations, like the New King James Version, go on to say “who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” This was added by the later Bible translators. In the oldest manuscripts of the New Testament available today, the Greek simply states, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”)

You may experience temptations and sinful thoughts from time to time, but right in the midst of that temptation, you need to know this: There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Notice that this verse is in the present tense. Right now, even if at this very moment, sinful thoughts are going through your mind, there is no condemnation because you are IN CHRIST JESUS! Are we then to sit still and entertain those sinful thoughts? Of course not.

Sin cannot take root in a person who is full of the consciousness that he is righteous in Christ. You cannot stop birds from flying over your head, but you can certainly stop a bird from building a nest on your head.

In the same way, you cannot stop temptations, sinful thoughts, and desires from passing through your mind, but you can certainly stop yourself from acting on these temptations, sinful thoughts, and desires. How? By confessing at the very moment of temptation that you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!

The power of Jesus to overcome every temptation kicks in when you remain conscious that even at the point of temptation, Jesus is still with you and that you are righteous in Him apart from your works (Rom. 4:6)! When you do that, you reject the condemnation for the temptation that you faced.

You now have the power of Christ to rise above your temptation and to rest in your righteous identity in Christ apart from your works. That, beloved, is the overcoming life in Christ!

GOSPEL CORNER : BASED ON THE NEW COVENANT OF GRACE, WHAT DOES GOD WANT YOU TO BELIEVE?

22/10/23

What is our part in the new covenant of grace? Our part in the new covenant of grace is to simply believe! What should we believe? We are to believe in Jesus! But follow me closely now, this answer may not be as straightforward as it seems.

If you were to ask people on the streets if they believed in Jesus, you would probably get all kinds of answers. There would be those who believe that Jesus existed as a historical figure, moral philosopher, charismatic leader, or prophet. Sadly, the truth is that believing all these things about Jesus will not save them.

So let’s establish what it means to believe in Jesus. To believe in Jesus is to first and foremost, believe and receive Him as your personal Lord and Savior who died on the cross for all your sins. To believe in Jesus is to believe that Jesus is the only way to salvation and that once you receive Him, you receive the gift of eternal life.

Furthermore, to believe in Jesus is to believe beyond the shadow of a doubt that all your sins—past, present, and future—were all punished on the cross and that today (this is where the last clause of the new covenant applies), all your sins and lawless deeds He remembers NO MORE!

Based on the new covenant of grace, what does God want you to believe? He wants you to believe with all your heart that He meant every word when He said, “I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more” (Heb. 8:12).

You see, in the new covenant, there is nothing for us to do but to believe! Your part in the new covenant of God’s unmerited favor is to believe that you are completely forgiven of all your sins, and that Jesus’ blood cleanses you from all your unrighteousness and lawlessness.

In God’s eyes today, you are made perfectly righteous by Jesus’ finished work. The new covenant’s emphasis is to believe that you are forgiven of every sin and that God has erased them from His memory.

If you don’t believe this, it will be impossible for you to depend on and expect God to protect, provide for and prosper you. If you don’t believe this, it will rob you of the ability to receive His goodness, blessings, unmerited favor, and success in your life. So believe. Only believe!
