LAGOS COMMENCES MASS ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICINES FOR THE ELIMINATION OF ELEPHANTIASIS

……Targets 3.9 Million Residents

Lagos State Government in partnership with a non-governmental organization – Mission to Save the Helpless (MITOSATH) has commenced mass administration of free Ivermectin and Albendazole medicines to residents for the elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) also known as Elephantiasis in six local government areas of the State.

Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye who flagged-off the campaign for the mass administration of medicines (MAM) for the elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis in Alausa-Ikeja, today, stated that the goal of the MAM campaign is to treat 3,952,904 individuals in six LGAs with Ivermectin and Albendazole medicines.

He said: “Our goal is to treat 3,952,904 individuals, achieving 80% therapeutic coverage and 100% geographic coverage in the six identified prevalent LGA of Eti-Osa, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Mushin, Oshodi-Isolo and Surulere”.

Ogboye disclosed that medicines for the elimination of LF in Lagos State would be administered to individuals aged five years and above through implementers who will carry out house-to-house campaign visits in the aforementioned LGAs between Wednesday 30th of August and Sunday 3rd of September, 2023.

“I implore all residents to seize this opportunity and access the free medicines, Ivermectin and Albendazole that will be made available during the mass administration campaign. These treatments began yesterday, Wednesday, August 30th, to Sunday, September 3rd, 2023 across the six LGAs. I cannot stress enough the importance of taking advantage of this initiative to protect your health, and well-being of your loved ones”.

Ogboye explained that lymphatic filariasis is a parasitic infection transmitted through infected mosquito bites, adding that the disease is a debilitating Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) that causes profound physical and emotional suffering to those affected during its manifestation stage.

“The Lagos State Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and MITOSATH has embarked on a significant endeavor to eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis, commonly known as Elephantiasis in Lagos State”, He said.

The Permanent Secretary disclosed that comprehensive efforts to combat NTDs in Lagos State began in 2003 when nine Local Government Areas were mapped, adding that the mapping process continued in 2011, identifying the remaining eleven LGAs as endemic.

“Among these, six LGAs were found to have varying levels of LF prevalence, as confirmed by the confirmatory mapping conducted in February 2023, supported by MITOSATH, Sightsavers and the Federal Ministry of Health. This underscores the significance of NTDs as a public health concern and the need for our commitment to combat their impact in Lagos State”, He explained.

Ogboye advised residents who exhibit symptoms of LF to visit governmental facilities closest to them to register for free surgical intervention and management of disease.

“Early detection and appropriate care can significantly improve outcomes and minimize the impact of LF on quality of life. Together, let us join hands in the fight against Neglected Tropical Diseases and bring relief and hope to millions of people affected by these debilitating conditions”, the Permanent Secretary stated.

Earlier in her remarks, the Executive Director, MITOSATH explained that NTDs are communicable diseases that have long been associated with poverty due to their prevalence in areas with inadequate sanitation, water supply, and substandard housing conditions.

She noted that the endemicity of lymphatic filariasis; a debilitating Neglected Tropical Disease in Lagos State, was verified through a confirmatory mapping conducted in six LGAs in February, 2023.

“This mapping reaffirmed the significance of LF as a public health concern in these six LGAs, therefore this Mass Administration of Medicines intervention is a show of the commitment of Lagos State and MITOSATH to the goal of elimination of NTDs in Lagos State”, Olamiju said.

She implored residents of the six endemic LGAs – Eti-Osa, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Mushin, Oshodi-Isolo and Surulere, aged five years and above to come out and access the free Ivermectin and Albendazole medicines for the treatment and elimination of the disease.

“MITOSATH as a supporting partner will continue to support NTDs elimination goal in line with World Health Organization roadmap, until the diseases are no longer of public health importance”, Olamiju stated.

Speaking in the same vein, the Director Epidemiology,

Biosecurity and Global Health in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ismail Abdus-Salam said that NTDs has continued to afflict over one billion people globally, primarily in developing regions of Africa, Asia and South America.

He noted that Nigeria bears a heavy burden of NTDs, accounting for 25% of Africa’s NTD cases adding that 774 LGAs in Nigeria are endemic for one or more NTDs, putting over 120 million individuals at risk.

“As we recognize the importance of human resources in Nigeria’s economy, it becomes crucial to address these diseases and improve the well-being of our people”, Abdus-Salam said.

The Program Manager of National Lymphatic Filariasis Elimination Programme, Mrs. Chinwe Okoye stated that the Mass Administration of Medicines signifies the Federal and Lagos State Government commitment to tackle lymphatic filariasis head on stressing that the campaign is a testament to what can be achieved when governments, healthcare professionals, non-governmental organizations and communities come together with shared vision.

“The success of this campaign hinges on various key factors, especially, the dedication of community implementers and healthcare workers, which cannot be understated”, She said.

PROBE OVER GREAT GREEN WALL #81 BILLION NAIRA FOR TREE PLANTING BEGINS

30/09/23

PRESS RELEASE

SHINA JO

Members Of Nigeria’s House of Representatives Adhoc Committee investigating Ecological Funds released for the Great Green Wall Project have uncovered how the National Agency for the Great Green Wall allegedly spent 81.2 Billion Naira on the planting of 21 million Trees across 11 states in the Northeast and Northwest.

The Managing Director of the Agency, Yusuf Bukar, who appeared before the committee on Wednesday explained that the 21 Million Trees which were planted in Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Yobe and Borno states were vandalised while others have been swept away by natural disasters.

The presentation by the agency’s Managing Director was further compounded by the conflicting financial reports submitted by the Central Bank of Nigeria and Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.

The lawmakers after scrutinising the documents presented, wondered how the sum of 697 Million Naira and an additional 500 Million as well as 480 Million Naira were spent on renovation of office accommodation while about 11 Billion Naira was spent on capital projects including those captured under Constituency Projects carried out by federal lawmakers

The committee also queried why the agency refused to carry out any financial audit since inception with humongous amount spent on capacity building and other subheads that are alien to its mandates as provided in the Act establishing it.

The lawmakers also discovered that several Billions of Naira have been kept in the Agency’s account for several years without returning such unutilized Funds to government coffers in line with extant financial regulations.

After taking presentations from representatives of the CBN Governor and the Accountant General of the Federation, the committee resolved to embark on an on-the-spot assessment Tour of all projects executed under the scheme to ascertain the claims by the agency.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28, NKJV

RELAX YOUR GRIP

None of us enjoys being uncomfortable, but we can’t pray away everything uncomfortable in our lives.

God is not going to remove every difficulty from us instantly. He uses those things to refine us, to get us prepared for greater things. In the tough times, God develops our character. The fact is, we don’t grow nearly as much when everything is easy; we grow when life is difficult, when we are exercising our spiritual muscles, through the dark seasons.

Understand that your faith will not instantly deliver you out of every problem. Instead, your faith will carry you through the problem. If God removed some of the things that you’re praying for Him to remove right now, you wouldn’t be prepared for the promotion that He has in store for you. He’s using what you are currently going through to get you ready for the good things to come. If things are not happening as quickly as you would like, relax your grip and trust God. Know this: Nobody wants you to fulfill your destiny more than Almighty God.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY.
“Father, thank You for Your promise that You make all things work together for my good, even what doesn’t seem good at the time. Help me to remember that You always use the difficulties to prepare me for greater things. I believe that You will fulfill my destiny because You love me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

SECTION TWO

Not too long ago, Lydia, a sister from South Africa, wrote to me. I believe that many of you would be able to identify with what she shared about her struggles in relating to God as her Father:

“Dear Pastor Prince,”

“I grew up with very low self-esteem, having been labeled the difficult child in my family. I was an unplanned baby, and my Parents already had one child—a girl, so they really wanted a boy. They were disappointed when I turned out to be a girl and even considered giving me to a paternal family member who did not have children.”

“My dad comes from a very cold, strict family, and he has a very bad temper, so I grew up naturally fearful of him and always felt like I was walking on eggshells around him. My mom also grew up in a household where she had not received love. Both my parents are extreme perfectionists, very organized, and raised us with military discipline and no compassion.”

“Thus, I could never relate to God as a Father. God was unapproachable and sitting with a lightning bolt ready to strike me whenever I wasn’t good enough, didn’t pray enough, or wasn’t obedient enough. I was under the impression that God was only pleased with me when I obeyed the law, that I never met His expectations, and I was always under condemnation.”

“Since encountering your teaching resources, the veil in my life has been torn. For the first time, I am free. I no longer walk under the heavy burden of condemnation. I learned that God loved us first, and I can now have a love relationship with my heavenly Father and Jesus.”

“I have experienced victory over fear and sin that kept me captive for years—not by trying to be obedient, but by just learning that my sins have already been forgiven on the cross. And no, I am not sinning more now. I am actually overcoming more and sinning less, and I have a grateful heart for what Christ has done on the cross.”

Do you feel as though you are never good enough, can never do enough, and be obedient enough for God to love and accept you? Do you feel you are always living under perpetual condemnation? Perhaps you can’t relate to God as a loving Father because you’ve never experienced the love of your earthly father or because your own father has hurt you terribly.

My friend, I pray that as you begin to meditate on today’s verse, you will supernaturally experience the intimate love of your heavenly Father in a deep and personal way as never before. I pray that this experience will heal, renew, restore, and transform you in a spectacular way because His love for you is nothing less than spectacular.

PROMOTING FOOD SECURITY & ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY,GERRY PUSHES FOR A PACT BETWEEN NIGERIA & CANADA

30/08/23

PRESS RELEASE

DANIELS OG

The Former Secretary of State and Minister of Immigration and Citizenship in Canada, Hon Gerry Weiner has suggested a pact between Nigeria and Canada towards achieving food security and Economic sustainability that would rob-off other African Nations.

Gerry, now the Executive Director, Global Relations Partnership and Customers Satisfaction, APS, Canada Startup Visa shared the roadmap on this during a virtual engagement with the members of the Journalists International Forum For Migration-JIFORM ahead of the body’s 4th Global Migration Summit slated for Toronto between October 2nd-14th 2023 focusing on Climate Change, Human Mobility and Sustainable Investment.

He urged other advanced Nations to copy the friendly migration model of Canada, noting that the challenges confronting human mobility in recent times could be traced to the imbalance of the global Economic progression between the Global North and South that had widening the poverty net between the rich and the poor countries.

As part of his legacy efforts, the Former Minister who has clocked 90 years, said he was willing to facilitate partnership between Nigeria and Canadian Companies to“conduct thorough research on the Agro Food Sector in Nigeria and other African Countries to understand the specific challenges and Opportunities and also identify potential partners, both in Canada and Africa, such as universities, research institutions, NGOs, and government bodies, that are already working in this space.”

He said with his several years of experience on the continent, he observed that Africa has enormous potentials that could be fine tuned to enhance the standard of living of her people. “Canada is one of the countries with food surplus while half of Africa goes to sleep hungry every night. We have 10 percent of the world’s freshwater supply but half of Africans may be drinking contaminated water. What a world without conscience” he lamented.

X-raying some tough economic decisions taken by President Bola Tinubu geared towards economic recovery; he said there was a need for Canada and other top economies to back Nigeria with a structured positive economic blueprint that would impact on Africa.

According to him, if a roadmap on Agro-food production and technologies from Canada could be adopted by the Nigerian government, the project could be funded by international development organizations, impact investors, with grants to support the initiatives that would encourage Canadian investors to explore opportunities in Agro food startups in Africa to foster self-sufficiency by empowering local communities to independently operate and maintain the technologies especially in Nigeria.

These, he said, would lead to collaborations with Canadian companies willing to share their technologies and expertise, facilitate knowledge exchange and technology transfer by organizing workshops, webinars, and training sessions to ensure that the technologies being transferred are adapted to suit the local agricultural and environmental conditions in Nigeria and in many African nations.

The JIFORM is an international media network founded in 2019 with over 300 journalists and other volunteers focusing on migration across the continents. It has been facilitating the annual international migration summit.

The 4th JIFORM summit to be hosted by the Abedorc Productions Inc, Toronto is slated for Belmont Event Space at Etobicoke, Toronto Canada with arrays of speakers from other countries to be led by Gerry.

GOSPEL CORNER: WHAT GOD HAS PURPOSED FOR YOUR LIFE WILL COME TO PASS.

Today’s Word

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes.
Proverbs 21:1, NKJV

TURNING HEARTS

God knows how to turn people who are against you and cause them to be for you. When God is ready to turn it around, no person can stop Him. No sickness, no addiction, and no trouble can stop Him. What God has purposed for your life will come to pass. He will do it when you face situations that seem permanent, when you’ve done all you can and the door hasn’t opened, when the person hasn’t changed their mind. You feel that it’s too late and you’ve run out of options. No, get ready. A turnaround is coming. What God started, He’s going to finish. He can change the mind of any person who is against you. You don’t have to convince people. You do your part and leave the rest to God. When the supervisor isn’t treating you right, keep doing the right thing and let God deal with them. He can cause them to want to be good to you. They may not like you, but they will help you fulfill your purpose.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

“Father, thank You that You are on the throne and You are working in even the most difficult relationships I have. Thank You that I don’t have to play up to anyone to get them on my side. I believe that You are turning the hearts of those who are against me to be for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

SECTION TWO

One of the most evil teachings I have heard is that God will chastise His own with sicknesses, diseases, accidents, and tragedies. When I was a teenager, one of the youth leaders in my previous church was involved in a horrible accident that nearly killed him. A church leader gathered some of us youths to go visit that youth leader and began to lament, “Why did this happen to him? What did he do to cause God to chastise him this way?”

Can you imagine how I felt when I “realized” that God was behind the accident? Honestly, it frightened the living daylights out of me to think that God would chastise a believer using such a harsh method! I remember praying, “God, please don’t ever chastise me this way. Whatever it is, please, just tell me, all right? I will listen, I promise!” I didn’t want to draw near to Him also because I was afraid of Him, afraid that if I made a mistake, He would not hesitate to chastise me with an accident that could leave me crippled for life or even dead!

Do you know that this erroneous teaching is actually based on the old covenant and not the new covenant? In Leviticus 26:28, God says to those who fail to obey His commandments, “I will chastise you seven times for your sins.” But guess what? You are no longer under the covenant of law. You are under the covenant of grace! Jesus has already borne all your chastisement and punishment on the cross. Read it for yourself in today’s Scripture, then reread it and reread it once more.

The prophet Isaiah saw a prophetic vision of our Lord Jesus on the cross, bearing the punishment for our transgressions. He declared that the chastisement we deserved came upon Jesus so that you and I will never have to go through what He endured on our behalf. And by the stripes laid on Him as He bore our chastisement, we are healed! Hallelujah!

So how can anyone have the audacity to say that God will still chastise us with sicknesses, diseases, and accidents today? To say this is to negate the finished work of Jesus Christ! Under the new covenant, God will never again chastise the believer for his sins!

Whatever condition you have today, it is not from the Lord! Look to Jesus on the cross. See Him beaten and scourged for you, and receive healing and wholeness from Him. He has paid the price for your total healing. By His stripes you are healed!

GOSPEL CORNER : WHEN DREAMS SEEM IMPOSSIBLE, THE OBSTACLE TOO BIG, YOU’RE WEARY, AND YOU DON’T THINK YOU CAN GO ON, JUST PICTURE THE CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE LAYING HIS HANDS ON YOUR HEAD, RELEASING FAVOR, HEALING, STRENGTH, BREAKTHROUGHS.

JOEL OSTEEN MINISTRIES
Today’s Word

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“Never turn your gaze from me, for I am your faithful God. I will infuse you with my strength and help you in every situation. I will hold you firmly with my victorious right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10, TPT

HELD FIRMLY IN HIS HAND
Today, close your eyes and see God’s hand of blessing on your life. When dreams seem impossible, the obstacle too big, you’re weary, and you don’t think you can go on, just picture the Creator of the universe laying His hands on your head, releasing favor, healing, strength, breakthroughs.

You are not limited or lacking. God’s hand of blessing will cause you to defeat giants. It will part a Red Sea when you’re at a dead end. It will close the mouths of hungry lions.

God’s hand of blessing is a supernatural favor, opening doors that you couldn’t open and taking you where you can’t go on your own. It’s a hedge of protection, keeping you safe from what should harm you. It’s a divine empowerment that will override every negative force that tries to stop you, that will cause things to happen that are unusual, uncommon, out of the ordinary. You’ll discover ability that you didn’t know you had.

Let the Most High God hold you firmly in His hand of victory and blessing.

A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You that Your hand has been upon my life in so many ways, holding me firmly lest I fall. Thank You that Your blessing has equipped me and empowered me to accomplish all of Your promises, even the ones that seem impossible. I declare that Your gracious hand of favor is taking me to new levels. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

SECTION TWO

God’s heart is never for you to die prematurely, nor to live a life that is miserable. Psalm 91:16 says, “With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation.”

This means that God not only wants you to have a long life, but He also wants you to have a satisfying life that is full of His peace, provision, and joy! In the verse, the word “salvation” is the Hebrew word Yeshua, the name of Jesus. So God will satisfy you with a long life that is full of Jesus and His grace!

Chronic illness, depression, or a short life is not, and will never be, part of God’s plan for you. He wants you to experience a long, full life in which you walk in all the blessings of health, wholeness, and provision that He has given you through Jesus!
