THEME: ATTACK MOSQUITO TO ATTACK MALARIA!

26/07/23.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

In the aftermath of the discovery by Dr. Ronald Ross in 1880, that Mosquito is the vector that transmit Malaria most malaria intervention programs were more of preventive.

CONSTRUCTION OF THE PANAMA CANAL

The discovery by Major Ronald Ross that malaria was transmitted by mosquito had tremendous impact on development programs in the tropics. One of the first of these was the construction of the Panama Canal, which began within a few years after Dr. Ross’s discovery.

One of the biggest obstacles for the workforce was sickness. Malaria and yellow fever, spread by mosquito bites, killed more than 22,000 workers before 1889.

An integrated program of mosquito control was initiated that involved seven basic programs that were strictly enforced. These were, in order of importance:

Drainage: All pools within 200 yards of all villages and 100 yards of all individual houses were drained.

Brush and grass cutting: All brush and grass was cut and maintained at less than one foot high within 200 yards of villages and 100 yards of individual houses. The rationale was that mosquitoes would not cross open areas over 100 yards.

Larviciding: Larvaciding was done. At the time, there were no commercial insecticides.

Prophylactic quinine: Quinine was provided freely to all workers along the construction line at 21 dispensaries. In addition, quinine dispensers were on all hotel and mess tables. On average, half of the work force took a prophylactic dose of quinine each day.

Screening: Following the great success in Havana, all governmental buildings and quarters were screened against mosquitoes.
Killing adult mosquitoes: Because the mosquitoes usually stayed in the tent or the house after feeding, collectors were hired to gather the adult mosquitoes that remained in the houses during the daytime. This proved to be very effective.

NIGERIA MALARIA CHALLENGES

Malaria is a tropical acute and chronic life-threatening parasitic protozoan disease characterized by fever. It is transmitted from one person to another through the bite of infected female Anopheles mosquitos which is its known vector; and it transmits a protozoon of the Plasmodium genus. The most common specie in Sub-Sharan Africa is P.falciparum, causing over 300, 000 deaths per annum in Nigeria alone accounting for 31.6% percent of the Global malaria mortality rate.
Mosquito breed in a dirty environment such as stagnant water, improper disposed waste, improper drainage systems, leaving overgrown grasses in our surroundings.

NIGERIA ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES

a. POOR DRAINAGE AND SEWER SYSTEM

Nigeria gutters and Sewer System have been constructed in such a way that liquid waste has no central collection point it drains into, rather the liquid has become a consistent breeding source for mosquitoes.

As been established above that mosquito developmental process is on water. This means that if the current Government both at Federal and States can mobilize Environmental Health Professionals with the task to genuinely come up with blueprint to alter certain environmental factors that will truncate the metamorphosis of mosquito, Nigeria would be able to have an official document that guide malaria elimination interventions and a possible projected date to eliminate Malaria in Nigeria.

b. POOR WASTE MANAGEMENT

Poor solid waste management, where in the 21st century Nigeria still practice open dumping has to be discouraged. Most of the waste articles serve as receptor of water where mosquito can lay eggs and develop into adult. Government need to consider building Sanitary landfill in every State of Nigeria for proper management of solid waste and jettison open dumping practice. Government should Implement a PAY-TO-DISPOSE RUBBISH POLICY in Nigeria, Build Sanitary Landfill to control Mosquito breeding spaces.

GOVERNMENT AND NON GOVERNMENTAL MALARIA INTERVENTION SO FAR.

EndMalariaInNigeria commend efforts and interventions being made by various groups, individuals and Government agencies Over the years towards malaria elimination in Nigeria and it is in recognition of this that we have in the last one year advocated a redirection in the methods of intervention from curative to preventive.

Although, the use of IPT, prophylaxis and distribution of ITNs to pregnant women has helped in reducing malaria mortality among pregnant women in some regions of the country when compared to previous records, however certain factors has limited the effectiveness of this methods. Most rural Nigeria women due to lack of education are still attached to some cultural and religious beliefs that dissuade them from taking this treatments.

Also, the poor housing system with no ventilation compounded with epileptic power supply is a discouraging factor for not using distributed insecticide treated nets (ITNs)

UNDERFUNDED MALARIA VACCINE DEVELOPMENT LABORATORY AND NIGERIA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL RESEARCH

Recently, Nigeria and Ghana approved the R21/Matrix-M malaria vaccine produced by Oxford University which is an improved version of the RTS,S vaccine that has already been approved by the WHO.

It is worrisome that the Nigeria Vaccine Development Laboratory that was active for about six decades, between 1940 and 1991, producing large quantities of vaccines against smallpox, rabies, yellow fever for not only Nigeria, but neighbouring countries like Cameroon, Central Africa and a few other countries in Africa has remain dormant. Though It was closed in 1991 by the federal government which said it wanted to reactivate and upgrade the facility, its resuscitation has remain a mirage. A once viable Laboratory has been abandoned to donor funding.

Similarly, the Nigeria Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) established under the enabling Act of 1977 which focuses on scientific area of research in Biochemistry and Nutrition, Virology Vaccinology, Immunology, Health system and policy research, Reproductive, Maternal and Childhood diseases Research, Clinical Science, Microbiology, Molecular biology Biotechnology and public Health, with studies that focus on diseases has also remain underfunded by government and left to donor funding.

NIGERIA MALARIA ELIMINATION COUNCIL

I call on the Aliko Dangote led Nigeria Malaria Elimination Council, to join #EndMalariaInNigeria in the promotion of Malaria preventive approach rather than curative, and learn lessons from similar failed efforts like the Role Back Malaria program in 1998, initiated and funded by international organizations like WHO, UNDP, USAID, World Bank, UNICEF, and up till now Malaria has remain the heights killer disease in Nigeria 20 years after the intervention. If such intervention had been focused on reconstruction of drainages, proper waste management, indoor residual spraying of homes, resuscitation of Primary Health care, establishing more research and vaccine production centers, Nigeria would have been on the road to malaria elimination.

We use this occasion of Mosquito talk 0.2, to call on government, Federal, State and Local, to immediately mobilize Environmental health professionals in coming up with National environmental health and water management plan that will address drainage and Dams construction, construction of sanitary landfill etc as a direct process of fighting mosquito in Nigeria.

Government should also invest in primary health care and improve remuneration for health workers, adequately fund Nigeria vaccine development laboratory, Nigeria Institute of medical research. We also call on government to establish and adequately fund research centres in Universities across the nation.

We use the occasion to call on Federal, States, Local government as well as international organizations to renew commitment and efforts in ending malaria in Nigeria through partnership with organizations like the #EndMalariaInNigeria in combating Mosquito in Nigeria.

NIGERIA CAN ATTAIN A MALARIA FREE STATUS.

A country is granted malaria-free certification by WHO when the country proves that it has interrupted indigenous transmission of the disease for at least 3 consecutive years.

If African countries like Lesotho, mauritius, Algeria Libya, Egypt, LA Reunion, Seychelles, Tunisia have been declared malaria free, then Nigeria can put an end to the over 200, 000 deaths caused by malaria. Just this year 2023, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and Belize have been declared Malaria by the World Health Organization.

GOSPEL CORNER:THERE’S NOTHING WORSE THAN TO COME TO THE END OF LIVE AND REALIZE YOU NEVER TOOK YOUR PROMISED LAND.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

From Hebron Caleb drove out the three Anakites—Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai, the sons of Anak.
Joshua 15:14, NIV

Take Down Giants
When the Promised Land was divided up and given to the families of the Israelites, Caleb could have asked for an easy section. But instead he asked for the mountain where three giants still lived, the place where the Israelites had refused to go, which resulted in Caleb wandering with them in the wilderness for forty years. He said, “Give me this mountain that God promised me. This is my destiny.”

Where are some giants that you can bring down? Where are some people you can lift up? There’s nothing worse than to come to the end of life and realize you never took your promised land. It is not in the average or in the routine or thel comfortable, but it is in the cause. It is doing something out of the ordinary, getting involved in something that isn’t about you, making your neighborhood better, blessing that coworker, bringing down a giant. Make up your mind to not live comfort-driven, but cause-driven. Then you’ll defeat your greatest enemies and reach your promised land.

A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You that You are the Most High God and that no giant is too great for You. Thank You that You have causes for me to fight, for people to lift up and support, and to help drive out giants. Help me to be like Caleb and be bold to take my promised land. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

PART TWO

The book of Daniel records how King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon made a towering golden statue and commanded all in his kingdom to bow down before it and worship it. Three young men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, whom the king had appointed to oversee the province of Babylon, refused to do so. Humiliated by their defiance, the king was livid. He gave them one more chance to bow down and worship his golden statue or be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace.

Without flinching, they said, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if he doesn’t…we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up” (Dan. 3:16–18, NLT). The king commanded that the furnace be heated seven times hotter than usual, and ordered some of his strongest soldiers to bind them and throw them into the furnace. The furnace was so hot that the flames killed the soldiers as they threw the three men into the roaring flames, securely bound.

Suddenly, the king jumped up in amazement and exclaimed to his officials, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?” They answered and said to the king, “True, O king.” “Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God” (Dan. 3:24–25). Nebuchadnezzar called out, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!” The three men stepped out of the fire and all the officials and advisers crowded around them and “saw that the fire had not touched them. Not a hair on their heads was singed, and their clothing was not scorched” (Dan. 3:26–27, NLT). In fact, the flames only served to loose them from their bonds.

Amazed at how their God had protected them, Nebuchadnezzar began praising God himself. The king then issued a decree stating that if any person spoke a word against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, they would be cut in pieces and their houses would be turned into ash heaps “because there is no other God who can deliver like this” (Dan. 3:29). Then, the king promoted the three men to even higher positions in the province of Babylon.

Beloved, this is your God.

GLOBAL STAKEHOLDERS DEMAND INDEPENDENT PROBE OF ENDSARS CITIZENS MASSACRE AND THE ABORTIVE COVER-UP OF GOVERNMENT

26/07/23

OLADIPO DG

…. Civil Society Leaders Demand Immediate Independent Probe and Action

…..To Announce Memorial Committee For #EndSars Victims in August

The United Action Front of Civil Society considers the leak of the Mass Burial of 103 #EndSARS victims by the Lagos State Government as a confirmation of the reckless killings of unarmed civilian protesters and citizens at the Lekki Tollgate and various locations in Nigeria in October 2020. The latest revelation, coming almost three years after the ugly incident which drew condemnations across the globe, speaks copiously to the repression and lack of transparency that characterised governance under the prevailing system in Nigeria. This expose underpins the grand conspiracy between security agencies, especially the military and Lagos State Government in an attempt to cover up the impunity perpetrated against Nigerian Citizens at the lekki Tollgate and across other locations listed in the media response of Lagos State Government.

The leadership of the United Action Front of Civil Society condemns the recklessness and cold-hearted disposition of the Lagos State Government for putting up a brazen denial, for close to three years, in the face of overwhelming disclosures and evidences from local and international media. It is instructive that while Lagos State Government has laboriously denied the killings of protesters at Lekki Toll Gate, which was invaded by the military, the atrocities perpetrated in other recently listed locations by government were also concealed. Governor Sanwo-Olu and agents of his government have all along been evasive on the reported killings in Alausa, the seat of power and other locations in the Lagos metropolis, until the mass burial of the victims were leaked to the public last week.

Nigerians and Global stakeholders are no doubt shocked by the revelations in the leaked official correspondence between the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency and Lagos State Ministry of Health, which clearly exposed the perfidy of supposed leaders of our society, who ought to be accountable to the people. The leaked letter wherein the secret mass burial for the 103 victims of the year 2020 EndSARS civil protest were inadvertently exposed, has finally confirmed the evil perpetrated by the State against unarmed civilians protesting police brutality across Nigeria.

It is also recalled that in the wake of the public enquiry set up by Governor Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, attempts were made by both military authority and the government to divert attention from the widely reported massacre of defenceless citizens in Lekki. However, while the invasion of Lekki Toll Gate and other protest centres in the Lagos on the eve of October 20, 2020 has never been in doubt, it is evident that the Lagos State Government did all within its powers to conceal mass killings of civilians that took place within its jurisdiction, It could also be recalled that former President Muhammadu Buhari on a national television chat also alleged that the EndSARS protest was an attempt to forcibly remove him from office ostensibly justifying the reckless and brutal manner the peaceful civilian protest was quelled having been perceived as insurrection against government.

The leadership of the United Action Front of Civil Society therefore demand a fully independent public probe of the killings of October 20, 2020 in Lagos to properly unearth the dept of the atrocities committed against defenceless citizens as well as the key dramatis personae involved in this crime against humanity, especially in the interest of justice and for the sake of posterity as we of the organised civil society of Nigeria maintain that this gruesome mass killings violated the fundamental human rights of the victims as recognised by the Nigerian Constitution and as provided for in regional and international statues.

It is the considered view of the United Action Front of Civil Society that the mass killings and the denial by both Lagos State Government and the then President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, who only could have been in a position to exercise the power of drafting the military to quell any mass action offends the spirit and letters of Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), which embody global accepted standard for the respect to life and dignity of the human person. Not only were the 103 victims of #EndSARS protests were unjustly murdered, they have been denied their human dignity through denial and non-disclosure of the cause of their deaths as well the clandestine arrangement to dumb their bodies.

The United Action Front of Civil Society therefore calls on the global community to hold the Lagos State Government, the Federal Government of Nigeria as well as the Nigerian military accountable for the callous mass murder, irresponsible denial of their probable atrocities as well the concealment of the identities of the victims of #EndSARS protests. To this end, the United Action Front of Civil Society hereby reterate our demand for an independent probe by eminent Nigerian of high integrity and Civil Society leaders with full observer status granted to representatives of the United Nations, its relevant institutions in Nigeria as well local and international media and interested global groups and individuals.

Finally, the organised Civil Society of Nigeria shall be setting up an inclusive memorial committee to commemorate the heinous murder of the 103 Victims of the #EndSars Massacre by the Nigerian State in immortalising the struggle for a Free and Better Nigeria, while also honouring those maimed and wounded during the #EndSars Citizens’ Mass Protest in Nigeria. The composition of this high-powered committee shall be announced sometimes in August 2023 after due consultations with stakeholders and families of the victims of the #EndSars Citizens Action of October 2020 in Nigeria.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well, for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and believing in him.
John 12:10–11, NIV

With the Blessing
When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, it was a great miracle. You would think everyone would celebrate that this man had life again. But the leaders in the synagogue didn’t like the fact that it brought more attention to Jesus. They made plans to kill both Jesus and Lazarus. God had chosen to bless Lazarus and make him an example of His goodness. But with that great blessing came great persecution. In the end, however, the leaders’ plan never succeeded. They failed to kill Lazarus. That’s because people can’t stop your destiny. The blessing on your life is greater than any force that’s trying to hold you back.

If God is going to bless you in a greater way, you have to be able to handle greater persecution. Don’t get upset when people turn on you. Don’t be bitter or revengeful and try to pay them back. Ignore it. Keep shining, keep dreaming, keep being good to people, and God will deal with the critics, the jealous people, the opposition.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, thank You for every blessing that You have given me so richly to be enjoyed. Thank You for the people who celebrate all that You are doing in my life. Help me to handle the criticism or opposition that may come from those who get jealous. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

PART TWO

We have a God who wants us to run to Him. And the moment we do, He has promised that He will answer us. Not “might,” or “perhaps,” but a definite “will.” And He does not stop at merely assuring us that He will answer us. He goes on record for all eternity, saying, “I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him” (boldface mine).

Do you know why we can have the assurance that when we call on Him, He will answer us? It’s because of the divine exchange that took place at the cross, where our Lord Jesus cried out, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matt. 27:46). He was forsaken—left helpless, totally abandoned, and deserted—so that today, we can have the confidence that our heavenly Father will never leave us nor forsake us (see Heb. 13:5). What a Savior!

Don’t you feel so loved and so cherished by our Lord? And He made it so easy for us to receive His promises—our part is to simply call upon Him and let Him be our God. Whatever you may be going through today, call upon Him right now and He will deliver and honor you!

Whenever I am troubled, I tell the Lord, “Lord, I am worried about this situation, but I place it in Your nail-pierced hands right now. I surrender into Your hands all my worries, concerns, and cares in this area.” Then, I receive His peace, and when the enemy tries to fire new arrows of fear into my heart and mind, I remind myself that the situation is already in the Lord’s hands. I remind myself of His promise that He will deliver me!

Are you living with panic attacks, fear, and chronic anxiety? Don’t allow the devil to cripple you with all kinds of negative mental pictures, or by replaying all the worst-case scenarios in your head. Call out to your Savior, Jesus Christ! He wants you to cast “all your care upon Him, for He cares for you” (1 Pet. 5:7, boldface mine). You are not a sheep without a Shepherd, so stop trying to carry all your cares upon your own shoulders.

Whether it is a physical symptom, a financial challenge, or a family situation that you are anxious about, call upon Him and allow His peace to supernaturally guard your heart in every area that you are troubled (see Phil. 4:6–7).

SANWO-OLU URGES NURSES TO HARNESS TECHNOLOGY FOR QUALITY PATIENT CARE

25/07/23

PRESS RELEASE

DANIELS O G

….Declares Open Examiners’ Workshop of NMCN

Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged nurses to adapt and harness the power of technology to enhance nursing education curriculum and professional examinations, stressing that this will ultimately improve the quality of patient care in healthcare facilities across Nigeria.

Sanwo-Olu who gave this advice today at the opening ceremony of the biennial workshop for examiners of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) held at Ostra Hall in Alausa-Ikeja, Lagos, noted that nurses can create a more dynamic, engaging, and effective evaluation process that aligns with modern healthcare demands if the right technological tools can be leveraged.

The Governor who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye explained that health workers shared goal is to identify practical solutions that will elevate the standard of healthcare to Nigerians adding that harnessing technology will help proffer solutions to nursing education and practice in various institutions and health facilities.

Sanwo-Olu noted that the theme of the workshop: “Integrating Technology into the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s Professional Examinations: A Tool for Advancement in Nursing Education and Practice”, is apt and significant as stakeholders in the nursing profession seeks to embark on a journey of transformation, embracing innovation, and propelling the future of nursing and midwifery education and practice in Nigeria.

“I’m aware that Nurses have always strived for excellence and continuous improvement in contributing their quota in the health sector through their vital roles as caregivers, advocates, and healthcare leaders.

“This workshop will hopefully be a collaborative platform, fostering the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and experiences, to explore how technology can be integrated seamlessly into nursing examination processes while preserving the integrity and validity of the assessments.

“We all must embrace this opportunity to re-imagine technology’s possibilities in enriching examination systems. Together, we can chart a course towards a future where Nursing students and professionals are better equipped to face the challenges of a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape”, the Governor said.

He urged examiners of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and nursing stakeholders present

at the workshop to actively participate, share insights, and challenge conventional thinking. He opined that the collective knowledge and expertise of participants will undoubtedly lead to groundbreaking outcomes that will benefit the nursing and midwifery community and the entire healthcare system.

Speaking in the same vein, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar stated that the integration of technology into the healthcare system has transformed various aspects of the healthcare profession adding that nursing education and practice are no exception.

“This implies that the role of today’s nurses should fit into the scientific and technological advancement that will enhance the overall competence of the nurses and midwives in all ramification of their fundamental responsibilities”, He said.

Abubakar explained that the examiners’ workshop is a statutory biennial event organized for prospective and current examiners Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria who may be utilized for the conduct of the council’s professional examination aimed at improving their knowledge and skill towards effective assessment of candidates.

He noted that the workshop will adopt the modular form approach that will encourage active involvement and participation of the participants in all aspects of the programme as well as foster one-on-one interaction with the Council on possible challenges and proffering measures towards resolving them.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Director of Nursing Service, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Dorcas Shonibare who doubles as the Chairman of the local organizing committee for the workshop noted that nursing education has made tremendous progress over the years with over 65 percent of current nursing workforce having first degree as well as Masters and Doctorate in Nursing practice.

She disclosed that the Lagos State Nursing Educational Institution transformed into a College of Nursing, Midwifery and Public Health Nursing in 2018 adding that the State Government just constituted the Governing Council for the Lagos State College of Nursing Igando with the Chairman of the Council being a professor of Nursing.

“It is worthy of note that many nurses, over 250, are administrators in Lagos State at the Primary Health Care level, secondary and tertiary health facilities and institutions. We also have many nurses in the Public Service attaining the position of Assistant Directors, Deputy Directors and Directors of Nursing Education, Nursing Services and Provosts of Colleges, breaking the bar of the Grade Level 14 stagnation”, Shonibare said

DON’T BE DISCOURAGED OVER WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE YOU’RE LOSING, HOW YOU’RE BEING SHORTCHANGED, NOT GETTING WHAT YOU DESERVE.

25/07/23

JOEL OSTEEN MINISTRIES

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

If the God of my father had not been on my side—the God of Abraham and the fearsome God of Isaac—you would have sent me away empty-handed. But God has seen your abuse and my hard work.”
Genesis 31:42, NLT

He’s on Your Side
Year after year, Jacob’s father-in-law, Laban, lied to him and cheated him out of his wages ten times. Jacob could have walked away bitter, but he took the high road and kept being his best. In the end, God’s extraordinary blessing on Jacob was so abundant that he had more flocks than Laban.

Don’t be discouraged over what it looks like you’re losing, how you’re being shortchanged, not getting what you deserve. God knows what you’re owed. When you come into your payback time, you’ll see sudden increase, unusual growth, extraordinary blessing. Now here’s the key: Don’t look to people to make it up to you; look to God. That person who hurt you or the company that let you go can’t pay you back the way God is going to pay you back. If you get it from people, it’s going to be less than what it should have been. You have to pass the test of being vindictive. That’s not a battle you’re supposed to fight. Let the Most High God settle your account.

A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You that You see everything that has happened to me. Thank You that I can let go of every unfair thing and forgive quickly before bitterness can come in. I declare that I will continue to be my best and let You settle my accounts. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

PART TWO

Do you know that the best time to thank Jesus for His presence is when you don’t “feel” His presence? When it comes to the presence of Jesus, don’t go by your feelings. Feelings can be deceptive. Go by His promise that He is Immanuel—God with us!

Have you heard the story of a groom who approached his pastor almost immediately after his wedding ceremony? He went up to his pastor and said, “Pastor, can I talk to you for a second?”

“Sure,” the pastor replied.

The groom said, “You know what, I don’t feel married.”

The pastor grabbed him by the collar and growled, “Listen, boy. You ARE married whether you feel it or not, understand? Just take it by faith that you are married!”

You see, my friend, you can’t go by your feelings. You go by the truth and the truth is this: God promised, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So the best time to practice His presence is precisely when you feel like Jesus is 100,000 miles away. Remember that feelings aren’t based on truth. God’s Word is truth!

Soon after I graduated from high school, I took on a part-time job to teach in an elementary school where I was placed in charge of a class of 10-year-olds. I remember one day, when I was practicing His presence, I knelt down in my living room and prayed, “Lord, I just thank You that You are always with me.” As I was on my knees, the Lord told me to pray specifically for one of the girls in my class who had been absent from school that day.

Now, it is very common for kids to miss class now and then for various reasons, and I had never been led by the Lord to pray specifically for any of them. This girl was the first! The Lord told me very clearly to pray for His protection to be over this girl and to cover her with His precious blood.

The next day, there was a big commotion in the school and I found out that the girl had been kidnapped by a notorious serial killer that very afternoon when the Lord had told me to pray for her. The killer, Adrian Lim, had kidnapped several children to be offered up as sacrifices to the devil. He believed that Satan would give him power when he offered the blood of these children to him.

Over the next couple of days, this girl from my class was all over our national media because she had been miraculously released. Sadly, she was the only girl released. All the other kidnapped children had been brutally murdered.

When she returned to class, I asked her how she came to be freed. She told me that her kidnapper was “praying” over her when suddenly he stopped and told her, “The gods do not want you.” She was quickly released that evening. Of course, you and I know why the “gods” didn’t want her—she was covered and protected by Jesus’ blood!

Listen to what I am saying here. In America today and around the world, the devil is trying to destroy a new generation because he is afraid that the young people of the new millennium are going to take over the world for Jesus. That is why we have to cover our children with Jesus’ protection.

I am sharing all this with you because I want you to see the importance and power of practicing His presence. As a teacher during that time, my class was my responsibility, just like my congregation is my responsibility today. Think with me: How in the world, with my finite knowledge and intelligence, could I have known that one of my students was in grave danger? It is not possible! But because the Lord, who knows all things, was with me, He enabled me to make a difference in my student’s life.

Similarly, whatever role or vocation you are in, whether you are a schoolteacher, business leader or homemaker, I want you to know that Jesus is with you and He wants to make you a success. Now, remember, all this happened to me before I became a full-time pastor, so please don’t think that this unmerited favor from Jesus is only for pastors. Beloved, His unmerited favor is for you. The Lord Immanuel is with you.

OYO FLOOD VICTIMS: STATE GOVERNMENT ASSURES RESIDENTS OF QUICK INTERVENTION

PRESS RELEASE

25/07/23

GOSPEL CORNER: SUBMISSION TO GOD-APPOINTED LEADERSHIP WILL ALWAYS CAUSE GOD’S FAVOR TO FLOW IN YOUR LIFE, AND YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF, LIKE DAVID, AT THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME!

When God wanted to bring down a mighty giant who was terrorizing the nation of Israel, He sent someone who was weak in the flesh. Think about it. In the eyes of the world, what could be weaker against a trained and fearsome soldier than a young boy who had no formal military training, no armor, was dressed in a humble shepherd’s garb, and did not even carry any real weapons other than a sling and five smooth stones from a brook? It is no wonder that Goliath mocked this young shepherd boy and his strategy. When David stepped into the battlefield, Goliath asked him sarcastically, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” (1 Samuel 17:43).

The implications of this battle were massive. It was not just a duel or contest between two individuals. The Israelites and Philistines had agreed to each send a warrior who would represent their nation. The defeated warrior would commit his entire nation to become servants to the other nation. It would be an understatement to say that a whole lot was riding on this one fight. And who does God send to represent Israel? In natural terms, He sent possibly the most unqualified person onto that battlefield in the Valley of Elah.

David was not even a soldier in the army of Israel! Do you remember how this shepherd boy ended up at the battlefield to begin with? David was there to deliver bread and cheese to his brothers who were in the army (1 Samuel 17:17–20)! And yet, David found himself standing on the battlefield as Israel’s representative against the haughty Goliath. From delivering bread and cheese, he was now called upon to deliver the entire nation of Israel.

David was at the right place at the right time because he humbled himself and submitted to his father’s instructions to deliver bread and cheese to his brothers. Beloved, this is something you need to understand. Submission to God-appointed leadership will always cause God’s favor to flow in your life, and you will find yourself, like David, at the right place at the right time!

The Bible says that we should not despise the day of humble beginnings (Zechariah 4:10). There is nothing glamorous about delivering bread and cheese, but David did not despise it. And that put him right in the Valley of Elah, the wind blowing in his hair—a young shepherd boy with no military experience representing the nation of Israel against a mighty giant who was a man of war from his youth.

This is what God loves to do. He loves to take the foolish and weak things to shame the wise and mighty things of the world. So beloved, humble yourself and submit to the authorities that God has placed above you. And when you are faithful to carry out small tasks assigned to you, His favor is released in your life and you might just find yourself doing great exploits for God!
