JAMB MAKES U-TURN ON DIRECT ENTRY ADMISSION

PRESS RELEASE

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has reopened the registration for the 2023 Direct entry registration from Monday, March 20 and closes April 28, 2023.

JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede disclosed that the Board had to suspend the registration which had earlier started on February 20, 2023 following the discovery of devices and machinations to circumvent and compromise the standard of A ‘level qualifications required from Direct entry candidates.

JAMB Says the recent joint operations of the Federal Ministry of Education and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, on Direct Entry qualifications, brought to light some unsavoury and nefarious activities.

Oloyede adds that JAMB and other concerned stakeholders and institutions are working assiduously to detect candidates who have engaged in such activities adding that the ones already found, are being dealt with according to the provisions of the law.

The Registrar also stated that the 2023 Direct entry registration will only be restricted to JAMB Test centres and will also be done under strict supervision.

Oloyede says all candidates must fill in registration/ matriculation number of the previous school attended, subjects of qualifications, awarding institution and institution attended.

He notes that JAMB will only recognize and accept 13 qualifications/certificates for the direct entry exercise.

For the First Degree, University Diploma, Higher National Diploma,HND, Ordinary National Diploma/National Diploma and Nigeria Certificate in Education,NCE holders, Oloyede stated that the candidates must upload copy of their certificate and letter of admissions offered by JAMB for the certificate obtained.

He says further that ‘statement of result’ can only be accepted for qualifications obtained after 2018 adding that ‘awaiting results’ is not acceptable.

On the Interim Joint Matriculation Board, IJMB, A’ Level, Joint Universities Examination Board, JUPEB A’ Level, NABTEB Advanced National Business Certificate,ANBC, NABTEB Advanced National Technical Certificate, ANTC, Higher Islamic Studies Certificate by NBAIS, International Baccalaureate and National Registered Nurse/National Registered Midwife, NRN/NRM candidates are expected to upload their certificates and letter of admissions from the bodies conducting the examinations.

He added that only candidates who obtained their NABTEB GCE A’ Level from 2015 to 2021 would be accepted for the Direct Entry admission.

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), under the leadership of its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alh. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, felicitates with the entire Muslim Ummah on the auspicious occasion of the forthcoming Ramadan fasting exercise.

The council prays that Allah spares the life of every Muslim to witness, participate fully in and benefit maximally from the noble act of worship.

Consequent upon the advice of the National Moon-Sighting Committee (NMSC), the President-General enjoins the Nigerian Muslim Ummah to search for the crescent of Ramadan 1444 A.H. immediately after sunset on Wednesday, 29th Sha’aban, 1444 A.H. which is equivalent to 22nd March, 2022.

If the crescent is sighted by Muslims of impeccable character on the said evening, then His Eminence shall declare Thursday, 23rd March, 2023 as the first day of Ramadan 1444 A.H. If, however, the crescent is not sighted that day, then, Friday, 24th March, 2023 shall automatically become the first day of Ramadan.

26 ELECTION OFFENDERS ARRESTED IN BENUE

The Benue State police command says it arrested about twenty six (26) suspects during the just concluded Governorship/State Assembly elections.

A statement by the police public relations officer Sewuese Anene says the offences include political thuggery/ illegal possession of firearms, snatching of ballot boxes and intimidation of voters.

Exhibits recovered from them include; three (3) locally made pistols, cutlasses, knives and wraps of weed suspected to be indian hemp.

While condemning these acts, the Commissioner of Police, Benue State CP. Wales Abass ordered detailed investigation into these case and promised to deal with suspects in accordance with the laws.

The CP enjoined the good people of Benue State to go about their normal activities and be assured that the command is committed to protection of lives and property during and after elections.

He added that, the command has special deployments for post election security management.

Governor Sanwuolu declared winner of governorship election The Incumbent Lagos state governor and Candidate of the ruling party All Progressives Congress has been returned for a second tenure in office.

The state returning officer and vice chancellor, Federal University of Technology Akure, Nike Oladiji who announced the governorship election result says governor Sanwuolu pulled a total seven hundred and sixty two thousand one hundred and thirty four votes to beat his closest rival from the Labour Party , Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour who garnered three hundred and twelve thousand three hundred and Twenty nine votes.

The people’s Democratic party governorship candidate Olajide Adediran came third with a total Sixty two thousand four hundred and forty nine votes.

In all, total valid votes at the end of the exercise was one million, one hundred and fifty five thousand six hundred and seventy eight. Total rejected votes was 17,953 and total cast 1,273631

INEC declares APC’s Dikko Radda Katsina State governor elect

The Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC, has declared the All Progressives Congress Governorship candidate in Katsina State Dikko Radda as winner of Saturday March 18 Governorship election.

Declaring the result at the INEC State Collation centre in Katsina on Sunday evening, The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Gusau, Professor Muazu Abubakar who is the state collation officer said Dikko Radda polled a total of 859,892 votes to defeat his closest rival, Senator Yakubu Lado of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who scored 486,620.

He said Dikko won 33 out of the 34 Local Government Areas of the state while the PDP candidate Senator Yakubu Lado won in Kankara Local Government Area.

Giving a further breakdown of the election results, The Collation Officer explained that Total number of votes cast is, One million, three hundred and eighty six thousand, four hundred and twenty seven while the total accredited voters is, One million three hundred and ninety nine thousand, two hundred and ninety one.

According to him, the Total Valid Votes was One million, three hundred and sixty five thousand, eight hundred and forty eight.

Abubakar added that the total number of rejected Votes is Twenty Thousand Two Hundred, five hundred and Twenty nine.

National Human Rights Commission to invite Oluomo, Gov Yahaya Bello, others over hate speech, electoral violence

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has summoned MC Oluomo, the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello and hundreds of others over incidences of hate speech, electoral violence, obstruction of voters and other infractions reported against them in the course of the presidential, national assembly, governorship and state assembly elections.

The Executive Secretary of the NHRC, Tony Ojukwu, stated this over the weekend while briefing newsman on the preliminary findings of the Situation Room set up by the Commission specifically for the 2023 general election.

Ojukwu said he was sure, the affected persons are gentlemen who would not hesitate to respond to invitation from the Commission to clear their names on the allegations.

Oluomo was reported to have said on the eve of the governorship in Lagos that only those ready to vote the ruling APC should come out on election day while supporters of opposition parties should stay at home.

On his part, the Kogi State governor was reported to have constructed barriers on many roads leading to the home town of an opposition candidate for the national assembly election.

The NHRC boss said while the Situation Room received over 300 complaints after the presidential election, almost 150 complaint was received within few hours of the governorship and state assembly elections, adding that more are being expected.

A date of the commencement of investigation of reported cases including hate speech, violence, obstruction of access to polling units, extrajudicial killings and gender related assaults, among others will be announced.

Makinde wins Oyo election. Oyo state incumbent governor Seyi Makinde has emerged winner of the state governorship election after scoring 61% percent of the total vote cast.

The returning officer Prof Adebayo Bamire the Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University while declaring the PDP candidate winner said he fulfilled all the requirement.

KWARA STATE

Abdurahman Abdulrazaq of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared winner of the 2023 governorship election in Kwara State by the Returning Officer for the 2023 governorship election in the State, Professor Isaac Itodo.

Abdulrazaq on the platform of APC polled a total of 273,424 votes to defeat his close rival, Abdulahi Yaman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who polled a total of 155,490 votes.

JIGAWA STATE

The returning officer of Jigawa state governorship election professor Muhammad Umar has declared Namadi Danmodi of all progressive Congress winner.

AKWA IBOM PDP Wins

The People’s Democratic Party,PDP, candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno has been declared winner of the state Governorship Election.

Eno scored 356,348 votes to beat YPP’s Senator Bassey Akpan who scored 136,262 votes and APC’s Akanimo Udofia who came third with
129,602 votes.

The Chief Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State, Prof Emmanuel Adigio made the declaration at the State INEC Collation Centre, Uyo after the final collation of results from the 31 Local Government Areas of the state.

PDP won in 29 out of the 31 LGAs, while the YPP won in 2 LGAs.

NIGER GOV’SHIP ELECTION APC WINS

The governorship candidate of the people’s Democratic party PDP Sani Liman Kantigi has congratulated the candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC Umar Bago ahead of the official declaration of the Governorship election results.

This was confirmed by the state Collation agent to the APC governorship candidate Mohammed Umar Kolo and the State collation Agent to the PDP governorship candidate Sani Kutingi in Minna the Niger state Capital.

The two state collation agents said the congratulatory call by the PDP candidate Sani Liman Kantigi even before the official declaration of results shows the level of political maturity in the state.

The chairman, inter party Advisory committee, Niger state chapter, Mohammed Bello said the state belongs to every indigene no matter the political difference.

Niger state is one of the twenty eight states in Nigeria where governorship and House of Assembly elections were conducted on the 18 march 2023.
