LAGOS LAUNCHES A WEEK-LONG FREE SCREENING EXERCISE TO TACKLE HYPERTENSION AND DIABETES

·         Targets 800,000 Residents in ‘Know Your Numbers’ Campaign Against the Silent Killers

·         Urges Residents to ‘Know Their Numbers’ Amidst Growing Hypertension and Diabetes Rates

Amidst The Increasing Rate Of Non Communicable Diseases of Hypertension and Diabetes,The Lagos State Government has launched a state-wide free screening for residents.

An initiative under the Nigeria Governors’ Forum nationwide ‘10 Million Project’ campaign aimed at addressing the silent killers of hypertension and diabetes,The campaign tagged: “Know Your Numbers, Control Your Numbers” is set to run from Monday October 28 to Sunday November 3, 2024

It will provide free screenings for blood pressure and blood sugar across all local government areas in the state, with a goal of screening 800,000 Lagosians within the one-week window, as part of the Lagos quota of the 10M Nigeria project.

At a media briefing held Friday at the Folarin Coker Staff Clinic in Alausa-Ikeja, the State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, highlighted the campaign’s objective to make health screening accessible to every resident in Lagos State. “This campaign represents a powerful effort in the fight against hypertension and diabetes, which often go undiagnosed until severe complications arise,” he stated, underscoring the commitment to proactive health-seeking behaviors among residents.

Prof. Abayomi introduced the public to what he termed the “silent killers”: diabetes, obesity, and hypertension. He elaborated on how these conditions often progress without symptoms, quietly causing damage to organs like the heart, eyes, and kidneys. “While diabetes, obesity, and hypertension may appear benign initially, they silently wreak havoc on the body, sometimes with deadly consequences,” he noted. Prof. Abayomi emphasized the importance of regular health checks and encouraged residents to participate actively in the campaign to “know their numbers.”

During his presentation, Prof. Abayomi explained that a significant portion of the city’s 30 million residents’ population are living with hypertension, diabetes, and obesity—yet many remain unaware of their dire situations. “With a hypertension prevalence rate of 30%, a staggering 8.67 million people in Lagos are affected by high blood pressure. Even more concerning, 70% of those living with hypertension, which amounts to over 6 million individuals, are completely unaware of their condition. Hypertension is a leading cause of heart disease, strokes, and kidney failure, making this lack of awareness particularly dangerous”, he said.

The Commissioner added that obesity, a known contributor to both hypertension and diabetes, affects 3.48 million Lagosians, or 12% of the population, stressing that the rise in sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy dietary habits is exacerbating the situation, with obesity acting as a gateway to other life-threatening illnesses.

“Diabetes is another major health issue plaguing the city, with a 6% prevalence rate—equating to 1.73 million residents. Shockingly, 50% of individuals with diabetes, approximately 865,500 people, are unaware that they have the condition. Undiagnosed and untreated diabetes can lead to blindness, kidney damage, and cardiovascular diseases”, he noted

Prof. Abayomi described the early symptoms of diabetes, which include constant thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, and slow-healing wounds. He explained that Hypertension, often asymptomatic in its early stages, may manifest later with headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, or even chest pain. The Commissioner warned that the “silent killers” can strike unexpectedly, leading to severe health issues if left undiagnosed.

To support accessible healthcare, Prof. Abayomi said the Lagos State Government through its social health insurance scheme – Ilera Eko Health Insurance Scheme, allows subscribers to access year-round check-ups for hypertension and diabetes on the standard premium package. “We want to remove barriers to regular check-ups,” Prof. Abayomi affirmed, adding that this service aims to reduce long-term health complications through early diagnosis and lifestyle modification.

He noted that the Project 10 Million; “Know Your Numbers” campaign, currently being promoted across Lagos is expected to have significant public health benefits, considering Lagos’s high prevalence rates of these conditions.

“This campaign is aimed at encouraging residents to check their blood pressure, weight, and blood sugar levels “During the campaign week, Lagosians are invited to visit any of the state’s 300 primary health centers and 30 general hospitals to get screened. Free consultations will include tests for blood pressure, blood sugar, and BMI calculations, enabling citizens to better understand and manage their health”, he said.

The Commissioner also identified specific risk factors contributing to hypertension and diabetes to include obesity, physical inactivity, poor diet, age, and stress. He recommended a healthy lifestyle including eating a balanced diet, regular exercise, healthy weight maintenance, smoking cessation, and stress management as ways to defeat the silent killers

“We strongly recommend that you take advantage of the opportunity to get a free health check-up at our public health facilities within the weeklong free health screening exercise next week. Beyond this, make it a habit to know and control your numbers—work closely with your doctors to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Start by focusing on lifestyle changes before considering medication, and remember: moderation is key. Live well, enjoy life, but always with balance”, he said.

Prof. Abayomi expressed his gratitude to the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, chaired by AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and Dr. Banji Filani, Chairman of the Nigerian Health Commissioners’ Forum, for their support. He also commended the unwavering dedication of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat in implementing this initiative.

In her remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Kemi Ogunyemi, expressed concern about the tendency for individuals to overlook free health services due to a lack of awareness. She pointed out that during the recently concluded Alaafia Eko outreach, where health services were provided to 24,000 Lagosians, many people failed to follow up on their health care. “We are seeing that free resources alone may not be enough. We need people to take ownership of their health, make regular check-ups a habit, and use available resources,” Dr. Ogunyemi said.

Dr. Ogunyemi also highlighted the importance of family health and urged parents to avoid introducing children to high-sugar foods that can lead to childhood obesity and other health issues later in life. “Hypertension and diabetes can be hereditary, and even children are susceptible. We encourage parents to take their children for regular check-ups as well,” she said, calling attention to the rising cases of childhood diabetes linked to poor dietary habits.

In a vivid anecdote shared by Dr. Ogunyemi, she recounted stories of individuals who collapsed unexpectedly due to untreated hypertension, emphasizing the need for consistent health monitoring. She urged Lagosians to not only know their numbers but also actively work towards keeping them within healthy ranges through lifestyle adjustments.

Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, shared his personal story on the importance of regular screenings. He spoke on the impact of daily stress, especially in high-pressure professions like journalism, and urged members of the press to prioritize their health. “The campaign is more than a health check,” he remarked, “It’s a call to every Lagosian to take proactive steps in managing their health.”

In his closing remarks, Mr. Omotoso encouraged journalists to amplify the campaign’s message to the public. “We look forward to your diligent reporting of this initiative, which could save countless lives. By ensuring widespread awareness, we are collectively taking a stand against the silent epidemic of hypertension and diabetes,” he said, reinforcing the importance of public engagement in health initiatives.

As Lagos State gears up for this statewide screening, citizens are urged to seize the opportunity to “Know Your Numbers and Control Your Numbers,” as early diagnosis and management can significantly reduce the risks associated with these life-threatening conditions

TODAY’S WORD

Today’s Scripture
…being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience.
Colossians 1:11, NIV

STRENGTH TO ENDURE
It’s interesting that in today’s Scripture, the apostle Paul didn’t pray that God would remove every difficulty from the Colossians or deliver them instantly. He prayed that they’d have the strength to go through the tough times with a good attitude. He knew that when we’re being stretched, God is developing our character. If we keep the right attitude, if we remain at peace and rest, we will come out better than we were before.

You may be facing some battles today that have you feeling you’re not going to make it. Pray for the strength to go through it with a good attitude. The Scripture says that you have the power of the Most High God inside you to withstand whatever comes your way. You are more than a conqueror, a victor and not a victim. You have to turn the situation over to God and let it go. Don’t let it dominate your thoughts or words. Stay in peace, knowing that God is going to turn it around at the right time and use it to your advantage.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, thank You that Your power to strengthen me in times of difficulty is greater than the greatest force that can ever come against me. Thank You that I can put discouragement behind me and stir up my faith. I believe that I am more than a conqueror and will overcome this. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

SECTION TWO

When you remember how Jesus willingly came to save you and suffered for your healing at the cross, it will cast out every fear of not receiving healing from Him.

That’s what partaking of the Holy Communion is about. When you hold the bread in your hand, simply remember how Jesus’ body was broken at the cross so that yours may be healed and whole. Say, “Lord Jesus, thank You for bearing my condition on Your own body at the cross. When the lashes fell across Your back, my condition died. It has no right to linger in my body!”

Likewise, when you partake of the cup, remember that Jesus shed His blood to save you. Say, “Jesus, thank You for Your shed blood that has washed away my sins and made me righteous. Because I am righteous in Your sight, healing belongs to me. I receive Your healing and resurrection life for my body right now.”

Beloved, remember the Lord and partake your way to divine health!

Should I Use SAP or use another ERP Software Solution: Key Considerations for Executives

OLUBUNMI ABEGUNDE, CEO THAMANI CONSULTING

An Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software is a comprehensive platform that integrates various business processes in an organisation into a one central platform. ERPs’ allow integration across several and different business processes of an organisation such as: sales, finance, purchasing, supply chain, customer service, human resources, marketing, inventory management, sales and operations planning, plant maintenance management etc. Through the integration provided, the impact of business process activities in one part of the organisation is immediately reflected in the other, for example, when a company sells 5 phones from their warehouse, a number of things happen immediately within an ERP system [a) the warehouse stock is reduced by 5 phones, b) the total value of assets in the warehouse is reduced by the value of the 5 phones, c) 5 phones are recorded in the sales register, d) an invoice is created, which automatically creates a receivable record in Finance awaiting payment receipt, e) when payment is made, a receipt is issues which closes the sales transaction as finally completed). Other processes such as credit matching, bank reconciliation, and many more, also take place afterwards. ERP systems, therefore, enable businesses streamline their operations, improve efficiency, and enhance collaboration across departments.

SAP ECC or SAP S/4 Hana software, is a very good example of an ERP system with a very strong global reputation for it’s robustness, flexibility, and versatility. SAP is a recognized global leader in the ERP space, and offers a suite of modules and features that help businesses manage a very wide range of important business processes, while providing a real-time view of business operations and enabling data-driven decisions. However, despite these immense benefits, businesses often grapple with unforeseen challenges during SAP implementation. SAP is also often perceived as expensive, complex and lengthy duration to implement, and in some cases, organisations don’t realise value from their investments, making it dicey for executives to decide if SAP is the right ERP solution for their business or not.

Here are some key considerations executives must factor in, while trying to make this critical decision:

*Your Vision and the Current Business Problems You are Trying to Solve – Are you trying to solve basic business problems such as being able to account financially for your business operations, or solving critical business control problems, or your business has expanded to the point where it has become difficult to manage multiple moving parts? If you are just trying to solve simple business problems, such as financial accounting only, or enforcing some basic business controls, SAP may be an overkill in this case! If your business has however expanded and you are dealing with multiple moving parts that are becoming more and more difficult to control, then SAP is a good candidate to consider for the long haul.

*Size of your Organisation – Do you have a multi country and / or multi geographical business structure, where the business is subject to varying legal and statutory requirements in the different jurisdictions you are operating (For example, some countries may require different Financial Reporting Structures / Standards different from the Company’s home country)? In addition, do you have a complex WM structure? If any of these questions are “YES” for your situation, then SAP may be a strong candidate to consider.

*No of Active Business Process Areas – Aside from Finance Management, does your business actively operate across several business process areas such as Procurement, Warehouse / Inventory Management, Product Costing, Sales, Asset Maintenance, Projects, Transport Management, Production Planning, Customer Service, Human Resource Management etc where a significant part of your OPEX / CAPEX budget is spent? If this is a “strong YES” for your situation, then is well worth considering, otherwise, you may be good with an alternative ERP solution.

*Complexity of sub business process break down and sub business process variants – Do your business processes break down into multiple subprocesses, and do those sub processes further break down into multiple variants, for example, in Procurement, do you have sub processes such as Procurement of raw materials, Procurement of Consumables, Procurement of Services, Procurement of spare parts, Procurement of chemicals and hazardous materials etc., and do you have further sub process variants such as Procurement of Raw Materials locally, Procurement of Raw Materials via Importation, Internal Procurement of Raw Materials, 3rd party procurement of raw materials and more? If this is a YES for your situation, then you should definitely be thinking SAP as it gives you much more flexibility.

*Type of operations performed at your organizational locations (e.g. Factory, Warehouse etc.) – Does your business operation involve sub contracting or contract manufacturing? Are you big on Service Procurement? Do you use 3rd Party Distribution Logistics parties (3PL) in your supply chain process? Do you use or require automation such as RFID etc.? Do you run short, but costly and / or multi year Projects? Do you integrate Transport Management you’re your Sales and Procurement operations? Do you need to manage international procurement and shipping and desire to track the associated customs and regulatory compliance requirements? Do you have a dynamic credit management system where the credit rules differ depending on the type of customer?
If most of these questions are YES for your situation, then SAP is simply the way to go. SAP simply provides strong functionalities and integration across these areas!

*Product Costing – Do you have multiple inputs that go into your product costing, and do you require a granular view of your cost breakdown per product you sell such as cost of power, cost of labour, cost of maintenance to understand how the cost rolls up? If this is a strong YES, then SAP is simply the way to go!

*Conclusion
In general, If you’re a large organization with significant complexity, then SAP ERP would be a good fit as it provides more flexibility with standard business processes you can already adopt and just simply configure to your own specific needs. However, if you’re a smaller organization with no immediate plans significant growth plans, then SAP ERP will not be the way to go. In this case others such as SAGE, MS Dynamics etc may be considered.

TODAY’S WORD

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Then the LORD asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth?…Is it not I, the LORD?”
Exodus 4:11, NLT

STEPS OF FAITH
Sometimes we almost miss the great things God wants to do in and through us because we talk ourselves out of believing what He says. When God told Moses to go and tell Pharaoh to free God’s people from slavery, Moses said, “I can’t do that. I’m not a good speaker.” God’s response was a question: “Moses, who made your tongue?” He was saying, “I’ve already put in you exactly what you need. Take a step of faith, and you’ll discover gifts inside that you’ve never realized are there.”

Don’t let the size of your dreams or the challenges to your dreams intimidate you. And don’t let naysayers discourage you from pressing forward. You have to realize that God will never put a dream in your heart without first equipping you with everything you need to accomplish it. If you feel that you don’t have the necessary wisdom, talent, or resources, remind yourself that God has matched you with your world. Do as Moses did and keep taking steps of faith, and God will do the rest.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, thank You for the gifts and talents You put in me to accomplish my dream. Thank You that I don’t have to feel I have everything I need in order to move forward. I declare that I will keep taking steps of faith and trust You to get me to where You want me to be. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

What mental movies are you playing in your head today? Are they thoughts of defeat and despair or thoughts of victory and favor? Faith is simply saying what God says about you and seeing what God sees in you and your situation.

It takes a thought to heal a thought. Unlike the world, which teaches you to empty your mind to achieve peace, God’s way is to fill your mind with fresh, powerful, and redeeming thoughts.

The apostle Paul tells us, “Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise” (Phil. 4:8 NLT).

So it’s not just trying to blot out bad thoughts with your willpower. It takes a thought to replace a thought. It takes a right belief to replace a wrong belief. You need God’s truth to replace the enemy’s lies that have kept you in bondage.

My friend, if a wrong, bad, or negative thought is lodged in your mind today and you can’t seem to shake it, stop trying! Perhaps you’re lying in a hospital bed and can’t help but think of the worst-case scenario. You’re attempting to suppress it, but it’s not working.

Well, stop! Stop trying to erase it from your mind. That just won’t work. What you need to do is replace that destructive thought with a thought that’s from God. That’s the only way to deal with a wrong thought and begin the healing process.

Start to meditate on truths such as, “Surely Jesus has borne my sicknesses and carried my pains. The chastisement for my wholeness fell upon Him, and by His stripes I am healed. With long life He will satisfy me” (Isa. 53:4–5, Ps. 91:16). Begin to play mental movies of yourself getting well, being discharged from the hospital, having fun with your kids, or going on a nice holiday!

THEREFORE THERE IS NOW NO CONDEMNATION FOR THOSE WHO ARE IN CHRIST JESUS.”

TODAY’S WORD

Today’s Scripture
Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!”
John 5:8, NLT

A New Beginning
In John 5, the man who Jesus healed had been crippled for thirty-eight years. This man never dreamed he’d be able to walk, play ball with his children, dance with his wife, or take a stroll on the beach. That’s the mercy of our God. Notice that Jesus didn’t say, “I’m going to get you a better mat to lay on, lighter and more comfortable. I’m going to get more help and better caregivers.” Jesus came to give the man complete freedom from his problem so that he never needed that mat.

Life is too short for you to have things lingering that are holding you back. Sometimes, we don’t realize how restricted we are. We’ve become so used to a dysfunction that it feels comfortable. You have to stir yourself up. God’s idea of freedom is not to make you more comfortable in a dysfunction but to set you free. It’s to set you on a whole new path of health, peace, joy, and blessing. God is doing a new thing. You’re about to rise, take up your bed, and walk in freedom.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
“Father, thank You that with Your calling upon my life comes the power to release any old thinking, old habits, discouragement, and dysfunction that would keep me stuck. I’m dropping the excuses that hold me back and taking steps of faith for a new beginning today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

SECTION TWO
Today, I want to talk about how you can have a victorious thought life. My friend, the solution to temptations, sinful desires, and thoughts is found in the very first verse of Romans 8: “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

(By the way, some Bible translations, like the New King James Version, go on to say “who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” This was added by the later Bible translators. In the oldest manuscripts of the New Testament available today, the Greek simply states, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”)

You may experience temptations and sinful thoughts from time to time, but right in the midst of that temptation, you need to know this: There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Notice that this verse is in the present tense. Right now, even if at this very moment, sinful thoughts are going through your mind, there is no condemnation because you are IN CHRIST JESUS! Are we then to sit still and entertain those sinful thoughts? Of course not.

Sin cannot take root in a person who is full of the consciousness that he is righteous in Christ. You cannot stop birds from flying over your head, but you can certainly stop a bird from building a nest on your head.

In the same way, you cannot stop temptations, sinful thoughts, and desires from passing through your mind, but you can certainly stop yourself from acting on these temptations, sinful thoughts, and desires. How? By confessing at the very moment of temptation that you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!

The power of Jesus to overcome every temptation kicks in when you remain conscious that even at the point of temptation, Jesus is still with you and that you are righteous in Him apart from your works (Rom. 4:6)! When you do that, you reject the condemnation for the temptation that you faced.

You now have the power of Christ to rise above your temptation and to rest in your righteous identity in Christ apart from your works. That, beloved, is the overcoming life in Christ!

YOUR PART IN THE NEW COVENANT OF GOD’S UNMERITED FAVOR IS TO BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE COMPLETELY FORGIVEN OF ALL YOUR SINS.

TODAY’S WORD

Today’s Scripture
To the pure, all things are pure.
Titus 1:15, NIV

SEE THE BEST
If you can’t see anything in a positive light, if all you see is what your spouse or your child or your boss does wrong, the problem is not with everyone or everything else. At some point you have to look in the mirror and say, “Maybe I’m the one who needs to change. If I’m always critical, maybe I’ve developed a habit of seeing the bad rather than the good. If I’m always skeptical, maybe I’ve trained myself to be cynical and sarcastic rather than believing the best. If I’m always finding fault, maybe I’ve become judgmental and condemning instead of giving people the benefit of the doubt.”

What’s the solution? When the temptation comes to be critical, deal with negative thoughts one at a time. If you see something or someone you don’t understand or you don’t agree with, don’t be quick to judge or allow that critical spirit to come out. Instead of seeing them through critical eyes, look at them through God’s eyes. Start praying for them. Train yourself to see and believe the best about them.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
“Father, thank You for always calling me to come higher and lay aside everything that keeps me from being my best. Help me to be honest and confront the areas where I struggle with negativity. I believe that with Your help that I can overcome and be victorious. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

SECTION TWO

What is our part in the new covenant of grace? Our part in the new covenant of grace is to simply believe! What should we believe? We are to believe in Jesus! But follow me closely now, this answer may not be as straightforward as it seems.

If you were to ask people on the streets if they believed in Jesus, you would probably get all kinds of answers. There would be those who believe that Jesus existed as a historical figure, moral philosopher, charismatic leader, or prophet. Sadly, the truth is that believing all these things about Jesus will not save them.

So let’s establish what it means to believe in Jesus. To believe in Jesus is to first and foremost, believe and receive Him as your personal Lord and Savior who died on the cross for all your sins. To believe in Jesus is to believe that Jesus is the only way to salvation and that once you receive Him, you receive the gift of eternal life.

Furthermore, to believe in Jesus is to believe beyond the shadow of a doubt that all your sins—past, present, and future—were all punished on the cross and that today (this is where the last clause of the new covenant applies), all your sins and lawless deeds He remembers NO MORE!

Based on the new covenant of grace, what does God want you to believe? He wants you to believe with all your heart that He meant every word when He said, “I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more” (Heb. 8:12).

You see, in the new covenant, there is nothing for us to do but to believe! Your part in the new covenant of God’s unmerited favor is to believe that you are completely forgiven of all your sins, and that Jesus’ blood cleanses you from all your unrighteousness and lawlessness.

In God’s eyes today, you are made perfectly righteous by Jesus’ finished work. The new covenant’s emphasis is to believe that you are forgiven of every sin and that God has erased them from His memory.

If you don’t believe this, it will be impossible for you to depend on and expect God to protect, provide for and prosper you. If you don’t believe this, it will rob you of the ability to receive His goodness, blessings, unmerited favor, and success in your life. So believe. Only believe!

BELOVED, WHEN YOU WORSHIP THE LORD, HIS ANGELS CAMP ALL AROUND YOU, SURROUNDING YOU TO DELIVER YOU.

21/1024

GOSPEL CORNER

Beloved, we have a resource that is greater than any attack the devil can launch against us. Would you like to know how you can activate angels in your life?

The most important key is worship. As you offer your praise to the Lord, the passage above tells us that’s when angels are most active.

Our Lord Jesus defined “fear” as “worship” for us. When Satan tempted Him in the wilderness, Jesus responded by quoting from Deuteronomy 6:13, which says, “You shall fear the LORD your God.” But He changed the word “fear” to “worship” and said to the devil, “For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God'” (Matt. 4:10, boldface mine).

Beloved, when you worship the Lord, His angels camp all around you, surrounding you to deliver you. If you are going through a difficult period in your life and are fearful, choose to worship Him. Fear fills our hearts when we are occupied with ourselves, but when we worship the Lord, we become occupied with Him, His beauty, and His goodness, and His angels surround us like a protective shield.

My ministry receives praise reports from people all over the world who, upon encountering His love for them personally through the preaching of the gospel, go on to be conscious of and full of thanksgiving for His goodness and grace upon their lives. Let me share with you a praise report from Sophia (who lives in Georgia, US), who’s also experienced the Lord’s intervention and protection.

Today, I read your Daily Grace Inspiration titled God’s Angels Are Watching Over You, and was really encouraged. I recall an incident when my daughter and I were driving down the road behind an eighteen-wheeler when a vintage-looking car suddenly tried to get between our vehicle and the truck. I thought, “Why are you—” Right then, I heard a voice inside speak to me, asking me to be quiet. So I let the car squeeze in front of us. Immediately after I let the car in, one tire of the eighteen-wheeler blew. Surprisingly, the vintage car stayed in front of my car, taking the full impact of all the flying pieces of the exploded tire.

Once there were no more tire pieces coming from the truck, the vintage car returned to the left side of the road and drove off quickly. It then dawned on me that perhaps the driver of this car was an angel of the Lord. I was so encouraged to know that God protects us in these days and times!

Amen! When God gives His angels charge over you, they go ahead of you to guard and protect you from all sorts of danger. And yes, they may even choose to travel in vintage cars. Hebrews 13:2 (KJV) says, “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”

THE BLOOD OF JESUS PUT AN END TO SIN AND GAVE US EVERLASTING RIGHTEOUSNESS!

GOSPEL CORNER

20/10/24

There are some Christians who believe that you can lose fellowship with God when you sin, and you need to confess your sin to God and obtain forgiveness to become righteous again. They claim that your relationship with God is not broken when you sin, but fellowship with Him is, so you need to confess your sin to restore fellowship with Him.

It sounds very good. But believing that your fellowship with God is broken when you sin will affect your ability to come boldly to His throne of grace to receive from Him. In reality, both the words “relationship” and “fellowship” share the same Greek root word koinonia.

This means that even if you fail, relationship and fellowship with God are not broken. Why? Because your sins and failures have all been paid for at the cross. How can you ever lose your righteousness in Christ when it is based entirely on His perfect work and not your imperfection?

To see how we have everlasting righteousness in Christ, look at the prophecy in the Book of Daniel about Jesus’ work at Calvary. Daniel 9:24 describes His mission in no uncertain terms: “To finish the transgression, to make an end of sins, to make reconciliation for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness.”

Beloved, we can rejoice today because Jesus has fulfilled every iota of this prophecy! The blood of bulls and goats in the old covenant only provided limited and temporal righteousness for the children of Israel, and that is why with every new failing, the sacrifices had to be repeated.

But in the new covenant, the blood of Jesus put an end to sin and gave us everlasting righteousness! Listen carefully to this: Jesus does not have to be crucified repeatedly whenever you fail because every sin has already been paid for on the cross.

We need to trust in just how complete and perfect His finished work is. Today, as a new covenant believer, you are righteous not only until your next sin. You have everlasting righteousness!

THERE IS GREATNESS IN YOU. THERE IS TALENT, WISDOM, CREATIVITY, AND POTENTIAL IN YOU. DON’T OVERLOOK YOURSELF AS THE ANSWER TO THAT PRAYER

TODAY’S WORD

Today’s Scripture
Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?
James 2:15–16, NLT

BE THE ANSWER
It’s easy to look at a person who is in need, or situations that require someone to step up and make a difference, and hope that someone shows up. You might even pray, “God, send a deliverer, someone strong, talented, with Your favor, with Your blessing.” But what if you are the one you’re praying for? What if you’re the one to do great things, to set a new standard, to take your family to a new level, but you don’t recognize who you are? When we’re always looking to others, always counting on someone else, it’s because we’re overlooking what God put in us. There is greatness in you. There is talent, wisdom, creativity, and potential in you. Don’t overlook yourself as the answer to that prayer. Don’t discount who you are.

You have so much more in you than you realize. Don’t get stuck in an old version of who you are. There are new versions of you coming that are stronger, wiser, more successful, and have greater favor. God has destined you to do something awesome. He’s destined you to leave your mark.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
“Father, thank You that You bring people across my path so I can be the answer to their prayers. Thank You that the gift and creativity and dreams You have given me are all I need to make my mark on this generation. I will celebrate and develop all that You have given me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

In more than two decades of ministry, I have learned this from the Lord: Without Him, we cannot. Without us, He will not. What this simply means is that we need to recognize the fact that if we do not depend on Jesus, there can be no real, long-lasting and abiding success—without Him, we cannot.

The Bible tells us that unless the Lord builds the house, we labor in vain (Ps. 127:1). Believers who want to experience His success need to recognize this truth and begin to depend on Jesus and Jesus alone.

There are some believers who may not articulate it, but in their hearts, they believe that without Jesus, they can still succeed. By believing and acting on this, they fall from the high place of God’s grace (His unmerited favor) back into the law, back into trying to merit and deserve success by their own efforts.

God’s Word tells us, “For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace [unmerited favor]” (Gal. 5:4 NLT).

These are strong words of warning. Once you start depending on your own merits and efforts to deserve God’s favor, you are back under the system of the law. You are cut off from Christ and have fallen from the place of having His unmerited favor work in your life.

Don’t misunderstand me, Jesus is still with you (He will never leave you nor forsake you [Heb. 13:5]), but by depending on your self-efforts, you effectively cut off His unmerited favor in your life.

So what do I mean when I say, “Without us, He will not”? Well, Jesus is a gentleman. He will not force His unmerited favor and success down your throat. He needs you to allow Him to work in your life. He waits patiently for you to trust Him. He waits patiently for you to depend on His unmerited favor, the way Joseph trusted and depended wholly on the Lord’s presence, until His manifested presence took over, and His glory radiated from everything that Joseph touched.

Beloved, let’s learn quickly that without Jesus, we cannot succeed, and if we choose not to respond to His unmerited favor, He will not force it on us. God’s unmerited favor is ever-flowing toward us and Jesus is waiting for us to come to the end of ourselves. He is waiting for you to stop struggling in your own attempts to somehow “deserve” His favor, and just depend on Him.

So in the areas that you are still depending on your own efforts to succeed, start resting in Jesus’ unmerited favor and begin experiencing His manifested presence and glory upon everything you touch!
