Enugu Airport – The Only International Airport in Nigeria Without International Flights

When Frederick Douglass penned, “Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will,” he might be thinking about “One Nigeria”!

It is often said that names do not make reality; substance does. In Nigeria, the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, stands as living proof of this paradox — an “international airport” without international flights, a supposed gateway that leads nowhere beyond the federation’s borders. It is a title without substance, a promise without fulfillment — a glaring metaphor for the systematic marginalization of the Southeast by successive federal governments that preach unity but practice exclusion.

To call Enugu Airport “international” is to mock the very essence of the word. A true international airport connects nations, facilitates global movement, stimulates trade, and projects a nation’s image to the world. Lagos, Abuja, and Kano airports meet this criterion. Enugu does not. What exists in Enugu is a glorified domestic terminal struggling to justify a name conferred upon it by political expediency rather than infrastructural readiness or administrative sincerity.

In the dictionary of Nigerian politics, international is sometimes an empty adjective — bestowed for propaganda, not performance; for appeasement, not empowerment. Enugu Airport, in its stunted reality, captures this deception perfectly.

A History of Hope and Betrayal

The Akanu Ibiam International Airport was upgraded to “international status” in 2013 under President Goodluck Jonathan, after decades of agitation by the people of the Southeast. It was meant to open the region to the world — facilitating direct foreign travel and promoting commerce, tourism, and investment. For once, the Southeast was to enjoy what others had long taken for granted: direct international connectivity.

But like many good things in Nigeria, that dream was short-lived. Soon after Ethiopian Airlines began operations to and from Enugu, politics crept in. The route, though successful, was suspended under flimsy pretexts of safety and renovation. The airport was closed for rehabilitation, which lasted far longer than necessary. When it eventually reopened, the “international” designation remained only in name. No international flights returned. No serious effort was made to restore them.

The federal government’s rhetoric about “upgrading infrastructure” and “ensuring safety” could not hide the underlying truth — the absence of political will to sustain an international gateway in the Southeast. The airport’s fate mirrors that of a region that contributes immensely to Nigeria’s economy yet remains at the periphery of federal attention.

The Unequal Sky: Lagos, Abuja, and Kano

A simple comparison among Nigeria’s major airports exposes the inequity.

Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, is the nation’s busiest and best connected — a hub of global air traffic hosting virtually all major international carriers. Lagos is not just an airport; it is Nigeria’s primary gateway and symbol of global presence.

Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, though younger, boasts modern facilities and multiple direct international routes — befitting its location in the capital. It enjoys constant federal attention and robust funding.

Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, despite serving a region with relatively less economic activity than the Southeast, maintains steady international operations, especially to the Middle East, driven by religious pilgrimage and consistent government support.

Now compare these with Enugu — a region with millions of industrious citizens and one of the largest diasporas in the world. Despite its potential as a commercial hub, its “international airport” remains eerily quiet, devoid of wide-bodied jets and bustling terminals.

This is no accident. It is the product of deliberate neglect — a continuation of systemic marginalization that deprives the Southeast of infrastructural parity. Once a cradle of innovation and enterprise, the region is forced into dependency, relying on Lagos, Abuja, or Port Harcourt for global access.

The Cost of Disconnection

Every flight diverted from Enugu to Lagos or Abuja is not just an inconvenience — it is an economic, emotional, and psychological cost designed to impoverish the Southeast. The absence of direct international flights discourages investors, limits trade, and stifles tourism. It sends a subtle but powerful message: you are disconnected.

Diaspora citizens returning home for holidays must endure extra costs and stress, often landing in distant cities and taking long, dangerous journeys to reach their hometowns. For businesspeople, this inefficiency reduces competitiveness. For the regional economy, it translates into lost revenue and stagnation.

Infrastructure is more than concrete and steel; it is a declaration of belonging. When a region’s infrastructure is persistently underdeveloped, the message is unmistakable — that it matters less.

Federalism Without Fairness

Successive Nigerian governments, regardless of rhetoric or party, have failed the Southeast in infrastructural justice. The pattern is historical, structural, and moral. The same imbalance that denies the region roads, railways, and industries manifests in aviation.

Lagos thrives because it is the commercial nerve center. Abuja prospers because it is the seat of power. Kano endures through northern solidarity and historical privilege. Enugu suffers because of political neglect — a lingering relic of post-war marginalization disguised as administrative convenience.

True federalism demands equity — that every region be given equal access to opportunity. But in Nigeria, federalism has become a façade for centralized control, where resources are distributed by politics rather than fairness.

Politics of Neglect and the Burden of Silence

What sustains Enugu’s neglect is not just federal indifference but regional disunity. The Southeast political elite have too often failed to speak with one voice. Divided by party loyalties and personal ambition, they allow collective neglect to persist.

Where Lagos leaders fight fiercely for Lagos, and Kano leaders defend Kano, Enugu’s representatives often settle for promises and press releases. The result: a region perpetually waiting for what others receive as a right.

Silence becomes complicity; resignation becomes acceptance. But no region advances by accepting injustice. The Southeast must move beyond lamentation — demanding equity through united, strategic action.

It’s Martin Luther King Jr. who said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

The Symbolism of Airspace

Airports are not just transport facilities — they are symbols of pride, connectivity, and inclusion. For any region, a functional international airport signifies both dignity and development.

When a traveler lands in Lagos, Abuja, or Kano, they feel the pulse of a connected nation. When they land in Enugu, they feel the void of exclusion. The difference is not geography — it is governance.

Airspace becomes a metaphor for freedom. The more open your skies, the freer your people. The more restricted your access, the more confined your destiny. To keep Enugu’s skies silent while others roar is to fence off a region from progress.

What Must Be Done

Restoring Enugu Airport’s true international status is achievable — if there is sincerity of purpose devoid of nepotism and primitive tribal politics the following can be done:

  1. Reinstate and expand international routes. Airlines such as Ethiopian, Qatar, Turkish, and Emirates should be encouraged — through incentives — to operate from Enugu.
  2. Upgrade infrastructure. Runway, terminal, and navigation systems must meet global standards through sustained investment, not cosmetic refurbishments.
  3. Decentralize aviation governance. Allow state governments and private investors more participation in route development and airport management.
  4. Promote regional economic integration. Enugu should serve as an aviation hub for the Southeast, linking trade zones in Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, and Imo.
  5. Rebuild political unity. Southeast leaders must speak with one voice — beyond party lines — for shared development goals.

Only coordinated action can restore the Southeast’s rightful place in Nigeria’s aviation map and national conscience.

A Call for National Reflection

The continued exclusion of Enugu Airport from international operations raises moral questions about Nigeria’s unity. How can citizens feel equal when their access to the world is curtailed? How can a nation claim greatness when some regions fly while others crawl?

The irony is painful: Nigeria calls itself the “Giant of Africa,” yet within its own borders, it practices selective growth. True greatness begins with fairness at home. Neglecting Enugu Airport is not just poor policy — it is injustice with wings clipped.

A nation that limits one region’s flight limits its own. Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Enugu should complement, not compete. Only then can Nigeria be truly united in the sky.

In conclusion, the sky must be free for all!

An airport is more than a terminal; it is a promise — a covenant between government and citizens that their dreams can take flight. The silence of Enugu’s tarmac is the echo of unkept promises and the weight of inequality.

Restoring international flights to Enugu is not just a matter of logistics; it is a test of justice. It is a chance to restore faith in federal fairness and national inclusion.

Enugu Airport must rise again — not just as glass and steel, but as a beacon of equality. For in the sky, no region should be grounded.

Ida B. Wells penned, “The way to right wrongs is to turn the light of truth upon them.”

It’s time Enugu International Airport was made a full-fledged international airport.

Now, that is what you are an heir to through Jesus’ finished work! In Christ, you are an heir of the world—its goods, its endowments, its riches, its advantages, and its pleasures. This is THE promise that God made to Abraham and his seed. Don’t apologize for it. It is your inheritance in Christ!

Gospel Corner

God’s blessings are part of our inheritance in the new covenant of grace, which Jesus died to give us. God’s Word tells us that “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us . . . that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

Isn’t it interesting that the Lord is very specific in mentioning that Christ became a curse for us on the cross, so that we can experience and enjoy the blessing of Abraham? He does not want us to simply experience any kind of blessing. He wants us to experience the blessing of Abraham. I think it behooves us then to find out what “the blessing of Abraham” is and who can receive it.

The Bible tells us that “if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Gal. 3:29). Are you Christ’s? Do you belong to Jesus? Then that makes you an heir according to the promise.

Every believer in Christ is an heir. Whenever you hear the word “heir,” it speaks of something good. It speaks of an inheritance that you don’t work for, an inheritance that is yours not because of what you do, but because of whose you are.

In this case, as a new covenant believer in Jesus, you belong to Jesus and you have a blood-bought inheritance in Christ as the seed of Abraham. You, beloved, are an heir according to THE promise!

Now, there are many promises in the Bible, but what is THE promise that God made to Abraham? We can’t claim this promise if we don’t know what it is. We need to go to the Word (use the Bible to interpret the Bible) to establish what the promise is. And we find the answer in Romans 4:13—”For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.”

The promise to Abraham and his seed (you and I) is that he would be “the heir of the world”! In the original Greek text, the word “world” here is kosmos. Its meaning includes “the whole circle of earthly goods, endowments, riches, advantages, pleasures.”

Today’s Scripture
For the Lord had caused the Aramean army to hear the clatter of speeding chariots and the galloping of horses and the sounds of a great army approaching….So they panicked and ran into the night, abandoning their tents, horses, donkeys, and everything else, as they fled for their lives.
2 Kings 7:6–7, NLT

It’s Going to Happen Quickly
The city of Samaria was surrounded by a huge Syrian army. The Israelites’ food supply had been cut off, and now the people were starving. They didn’t have the army, the weapons, or the strength to fight back. The situation looked impossible. It was just a matter of time before they would die. But God is not limited by what you don’t have. He’s not intimidated by how big the opposition is, by how bad the medical report is, by what the financial statement says. He used the sound of a great approaching army to cause the Syrians to flee for their lives, leaving behind an abundance of provision for the Israelites.

God knows how to get rid of the opposition quickly. Don’t be discouraged by how permanent that obstacle looks or how much more powerful it seems than you. You have an advantage. The Most High God is on your side. He knows how to cause your enemies to hurry out of your way. You’re going to see some things turn around quickly, problems resolve suddenly, and the opposition be defeated rapidly.

A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You that You are the God who can do the impossible and who loves to surprise us. Thank You that one touch of Your favor can turn around what looks like it will never change. I believe that this is a new day and You are going to do more than I can imagine. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

SECTION TWO

When I visited the Mount of Beatitudes in Israel some time ago, the Lord opened my eyes to see for the first time how He had met the man with leprosy in Matthew 8:1–4. After preaching to the multitudes, our Lord didn’t go down the mountain toward them. Our Lord had actually walked down the mountain in another direction, very likely in the direction toward Capernaum (Matt. 8:5).

As I took a path down the mountain toward Capernaum that day, I saw slabs of stone strewn along the foot of the mountain. These stone slabs are just the right size for a man to crawl under and find shelter. Right then and there, I had the revelation of how the man with leprosy could have hidden under one of these slabs for fear of being discovered by the people, and how our Lord Jesus had known the man was hiding there and deliberately gone to seek him before the crowds caught up with Him.

In Jesus’ day, those with leprosy were ostracized and isolated in accordance with the law of Moses. Because they were conscious of how unclean they were and what the law required of them, their natural response was to withdraw and hide.

But hiding didn’t get the man with leprosy in Matthew 8 the healing and restoration he needed. Fortunately, hearing about the goodness of God—how God wanted to be a loving Father to him and take care of all his needs—got him out of hiding and into seeking the Lord for his miracle.

It changed his mind from seeing a God Who ostracized and condemned unclean people to seeing a God Who loved them no matter what their condition. This change of mind lit his faith and put courage in his heart to seek and receive the healing he so desperately wanted.

Like the man with leprosy at the start of his story, could you also be hiding from God today? Maybe you’ve been struggling with an addiction or cycle of defeat that you can’t seem to get out of. Maybe you’ve been a victim of sexual abuse and you blame yourself for it. Maybe you’ve had a failed marriage or business, or made a bad decision that has led to loss. And maybe your failure has caused you to avoid God, avoid going to church, and avoid people in general.

Beloved, whatever may be causing you to feel “unclean” or disqualified today, God wants you to change your mind about Him and, instead of hiding from Him, to run to Him!

The Role of Immunity in Disease Management

The Role of Immunity in Disease Management

By Livy-Elcon Emereonye

Abstract

Immunity represents the biological foundation of disease prevention, control, and recovery. The human immune system protects the body from pathogenic organisms and abnormal cell growth through a highly coordinated defense network. This paper discusses the types and functions of immunity, its significance in disease prevention, its role in acute and chronic disease management, and its application in both conventional and integrative medicine. It concludes by emphasizing the importance of immune modulation in maintaining health and longevity.

  1. Introduction

The immune system plays a central role in human survival by providing defense against infectious agents, toxins, and abnormal cells. Immunity can be viewed as the biological mechanism that enables the body to distinguish between self and non-self components and to neutralize potentially harmful entities (Murphy & Weaver, 2016). In the management of diseases, the strength, balance, and regulation of immunity determine both susceptibility and recovery outcomes.

  1. Concept and Classification of Immunity

Immunity refers to the body’s ability to resist or eliminate potentially harmful foreign materials or abnormal cells (Parham, 2015). It is broadly classified into innate (natural) and adaptive (acquired) immunity.

Innate immunity constitutes the first line of defense and is present from birth. It includes physical barriers like the skin, mucous membranes, and chemical factors such as gastric acid and antimicrobial peptides (Chaplin, 2010).

Adaptive immunity, on the other hand, develops through exposure to antigens. It involves specialized cells such as lymphocytes that generate specific responses and immunological memory, enabling faster reactions upon re-exposure to pathogens (Janeway et al., 2005).

  1. Immunity as a Mechanism for Disease Prevention

A well-functioning immune system prevents disease by recognizing and neutralizing pathogens before they can cause harm. It also eliminates precancerous and abnormal cells through immune surveillance (Vesely et al., 2011). Vaccination represents a practical application of adaptive immunity, as it stimulates the production of memory cells that provide long-term protection without inducing disease (Plotkin, 2014).

Thus, immunity is not only defensive but also preventive—forming the biological foundation of public health interventions.

  1. Immunity and Disease Progression

During disease, the immune response determines the severity and outcome of infection. A robust immune response can efficiently clear pathogens, whereas a weak immune system may lead to prolonged or recurrent infections (Abbas, Lichtman, & Pillai, 2021). Conversely, excessive or dysregulated immune responses may cause tissue damage or autoimmune diseases in which the body attacks its own cells (Davidson & Diamond, 2001).

Effective disease management, therefore, requires maintaining immune balance—strong enough to resist infection but regulated enough to prevent autoimmunity.

  1. Immunity in Integrative and Conventional Medicine

In conventional medicine, immunity is supported through vaccines, immunostimulants, immunosuppressive drugs, and monoclonal antibodies used to treat immune-related disorders (Delves & Roitt, 2000).

In integrative and complementary medicine, the focus is on enhancing the body’s natural resistance through nutrition, herbal remedies, lifestyle modifications, and mind-body balance (Mills & Bone, 2013). Nutrients such as vitamins C, D, and zinc are known to modulate immune function (Wintergerst et al., 2007). Similarly, herbs like Echinacea purpurea, Astragalus membranaceus, and Curcuma longa have been documented to enhance immune resilience and reduce inflammation (Block & Mead, 2003; Panossian & Wikman, 2009).

Among contemporary herbal innovations, Infedi® capsules stand out as a 100% natural supplement formulated to strengthen immune response, support detoxification, and promote overall wellness. Its herbal composition aligns with the principles of integrative medicine that emphasize safety, balance, and the restoration of physiological harmony.

  1. Immunity in Chronic Disease Management

Chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and hypertension are often associated with immune dysregulation and chronic inflammation. Strengthening immune function can reduce systemic inflammation and improve therapeutic outcomes (Calder et al., 2013).

In oncology, immunotherapy has become a major therapeutic strategy that harnesses the body’s immune system to target and destroy cancer cells (Pardoll, 2012). Similarly, managing chronic metabolic diseases now includes approaches aimed at restoring immune balance through diet, exercise, and stress reduction (Hotamisligil, 2017).

  1. Immune Modulation as a Therapeutic Approach

Immune modulation refers to maintaining optimal immune responsiveness—neither overstimulated nor suppressed (Kumar & Abbas, 2020). Probiotics, antioxidants, and adaptogenic herbs such as Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha) and Panax ginseng can support this balance by enhancing resilience against stress and infection (Corthésy, 2013; Panossian & Wikman, 2009).

Given that about 70% of immune cells reside in the gastrointestinal tract, gut health and microbiome balance are critical in immune regulation (Belkaid & Hand, 2014).

  1. Public Health Implications of Immunity

At the population level, immunity underpins key public health measures such as immunization campaigns and herd immunity. Effective vaccination programs have significantly reduced the global burden of infectious diseases, including smallpox, polio, and measles (Fine, Eames, & Heymann, 2011). Public health education focusing on nutrition, hygiene, and environmental health further strengthens community immunity and resilience against emerging infections.

  1. Conclusion

Immunity represents the cornerstone of disease prevention and management. Its effective functioning determines the body’s capacity to resist, control, and recover from disease. Integrating immune support strategies—through vaccination, balanced nutrition, herbal supplementation, and healthy lifestyles—offers a holistic framework for promoting wellness. Natural products such as Infedi Capsules provide safe, herbal-based immune enhancement in line with integrative health principles. Strengthening immunity is, therefore, both a medical and moral imperative for achieving global health and longevity.

Today’s Word
Today’s Scripture
For God says, “I will break the strength of the wicked, but I will increase the power of the godly.”
Psalm 75:10, NLT

It’s Just a Matter of Time.
We all have things we’re believing will change. We’re fighting an illness, struggling with an addiction, or dealing with fear, anxiety, or depression. We prayed, we believed, but we don’t see anything improving. But in the unseen realm the moment you prayed, the strength of what was coming against you was being broken. The strength of the fear, the addiction, the sickness was being broken. Now, you may not see any manifestation for some time. There may not be any evidence that anything changed. This is where many people get discouraged. There will always be a time period when it looks as though God didn’t do what He promised. The fear still comes, the medical report hasn’t improved, the addiction is the same. But the strength of those things has been broken and power is increasing in your life. The truth is the fear is dead, the addiction is dead, the trouble at work is dead. Don’t get discouraged because you don’t see anything happening. It’s just a matter of time. What God promised you is on the way.

A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You for all the promises You’ve given me in Your Word. Thank You that I don’t have to stress out when I don’t see things changing because You have broken off the strength of what comes against me. I will believe first and declare that answers are on the way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

SECTION TWO

My friend, you are favored and accepted by God today because of His unmerited favor. Even if your life is a mess, He can take your mess and make it into something beautiful. Come to Him just as you are.

Years ago, one of my church members suddenly stopped coming to church for a long time. I met up with him to find out how he was doing and to see if everything was all right. He was very honest with me and told me that he was going through a lot of problems in his marriage, and that he was now addicted to alcohol. Then, he said this: “Let me get my life right, then I will come back to church.”

I smiled and asked him, “Do you clean yourself before you take a bath?” I could tell from his expression that he was taken aback by my question, so I told him, “Come as you are to the Lord. He is the bath. He will cleanse you. He will get your life in order for you, and He will cause every addiction to lose its hold on you. You don’t have to use your own efforts to clean yourself before you take a bath!”

I am glad to share that this precious brother soon returned to church and Jesus turned his life around. Today, he is happily married, blessed with a beautiful family, and is one of my trusted, key leaders. That is what the Lord does when you come to Him as you are, and allow Him to love you into wholeness. He will make all things beautiful in your life.

There are many people today who are like this brother. They want to get their lives together by themselves before they come to Jesus. They are under the impression that they need to make themselves holy before they can step into God’s holy presence. They feel like they are being hypocrites if they don’t sort out their lives first before coming to church.

Nothing could be further from the truth. You will never be able to make yourself holy enough to qualify for God’s blessings. You are made holy, righteous, and clean by the blood of Jesus Christ, and it is His righteous standing that qualifies you—nothing more and nothing less.

So stop trying to clean yourself before you go to the Lord. Come to Jesus with all your mess, all your addictions, all your weaknesses, and all your failures. God loves you just as you are.

However, He also loves you too much to let you stay the same. My friend, when you come to Jesus, He becomes your “bath.” He will wash you clean, whiter than snow! Jump into the bath today and allow Jesus to make you perfect, righteous, and holy in God’s eyes!

Beloved, choose to prioritize the presence of the Lord wherever you are. You will experience the undeniable evidence of His presence in your life.

Today’s Word
Today’s Scripture
This very day the LORD will put you in my power; I will defeat you and cut off your head.”
1 Samuel 17:46, GNT

Put Your Faith Out There.
When David came against the giant Goliath, he could have looked at Goliath and said, “I don’t have a chance. I’ll never defeat him.” I’m sure those thoughts came to his mind, but David understood the principle that if he spoke those negative words, he was calling in defeat, limitations, and weakness. That’s why he stayed on the offensive and declared, “I will defeat you.” What was he doing? He was calling in victory, favor, and ability, which is exactly what happened.

When you face challenges, it’s so important what you’re saying. When you’re facing an illness, you need to call in healing and declare, “I will defeat this sickness. I will live and not die. The number of my days God will fulfill. I am healed. I am whole.” You have to call in greatness, call in new levels, call in courage. Put your faith out there. Call in your dreams, favor, abundance, opportunity, promotion, divine connections, wisdom, and creativity. You’re about to see the surpassing greatness of God’s favor. Get ready. What you’re calling in is on the way.

A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You that my words give life to my faith, and I can use my words to prophesy my future. Thank You that I can use my words to call in healing, freedom, abundance, and strength. I will say what You say about me and what You promise in Your Word. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

SECTION TWO

David is a wonderful example of someone who talked to the Lord and practiced His presence all the time. Even as a young teenager taking care of his father’s sheep in the fields, he would be singing psalms and hymns to the Lord and playing his harp.

In 1 Samuel 16, the Bible records that King Saul was very unsettled, and his servants told him that he was being troubled by a distressing spirit. They then advised him to bring David before him to play the harp for him, saying that evil spirits departed when David played the harp.

One of the servants gave a glowing description of David as someone “who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the LORD is with him.” Do you know why David could cause Saul to become refreshed just by playing his harp? Do you know why David could have such accolades heaped upon him? I believe that the key is in the last part of the verse: “the LORD is with him.”

A few years after Wendy and I got married, an incident happened that I will never forget. I was on my way home one day and I had stepped into a cramped elevator. A group of ladies squeezed into the same elevator with me and their perfumes were overpowering!

Anyway, almost dizzy from near-suffocation, I got home and greeted Wendy with a kiss. She looked at me and remarked that she smelled a familiar female fragrance on me. To clear the air (literally), I told her about my encounter earlier with the ladies in the elevator. And that’s why, my friend, it’s so important to have trust in your marriage!

I am sure that you have experienced something similar before. Have you ever been in a room filled with cigarette smoke? You may not smoke, but your hair and clothes will smell of smoke even after you have left the room.

In the same way, you cannot be in the presence of the Lord without His glory, His majesty, His beauty, His power, His love, and His peace rubbing off on you. You begin to “smell” like Jesus, be powerful like Him, and be filled with peace like Him!

No wonder Acts 4:13 records this about Peter and John: “Now when they [the rulers and elders of Israel] saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.”

Beloved, choose to prioritize the presence of the Lord wherever you are. You will experience the undeniable evidence of His presence in your life.

We need to realize how much we need our Savior and His protection daily. We need to involve the Lord Jesus in our lives every day. Only He can deliver us and keep us safe!

Today’s Word
Today’s Scripture
“Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble.”
Daniel 4:37, NIV

Recognize God’s Goodness

In Daniel 4, King Nebuchadnezzar had been boasting that it was by his power that the great city Babylon had been built. Even while he was speaking, God said, “Nebuchadnezzar, this day you lost the kingdom.” Why is that? God will not share His glory. If you’re going to claim it as your own, as though it was by your ability or strength, He’ll step away, with consequences. For seven years, Nebuchadnezzar lost his throne and his sanity.

SECTION TWO

What’s interesting is that when Nebuchadnezzar changed his mind and realized it was God who had given him the favor, that it was God who had promoted him, he humbled himself and spoke today’s Scripture. A few verses earlier he was saying, “My power, my might.” Now he was saying, “I praise the King of heaven.” Instead of taking the credit, he started giving God the credit. When he did, God gave him another chance and put him back in power. When you’re constantly giving God the honor and credit for what He’s done, there’s no limit to how high you will go.

A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You that You are the Most High God who rules over the nations. I recognize Your goodness in my life and where I am at today. You chose to bless me, to have mercy on me, and to take me where I couldn’t go on my own. I humble myself and give You all
[29/10, 1:07 am] Odia Abuja: Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler. Not “maybe” or “sometimes,” but an unqualified “surely.” Not a conditional “He might” but a definitive “He shall.” What blessed assurance we have that our God will deliver us from the snare of the fowler!

The Bible depicts the devil as a fowler. A fowler is a professional bird catcher. He lays traps and carefully conceals them so that he can ambush unsuspecting birds. The Bible also depicts the devil as a thief and murderer who comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10).

What we need to understand is that the world we live in is a fallen world. Adam committed high treason and gave the keys of this world to the devil. Because of what Adam did, the devil is the ruler of this world. The apostle Paul calls him “the prince of the power of the air” (Eph. 2:2).

That is why as long as the devil is still the ruler of this world, the world will continue to get darker and darker and there will continue to be accidents, sicknesses, calamities, tragedies, and deaths.

But we can rejoice in the knowledge that the devil’s lease on this world is quickly running out. Apostle Paul also tells us that our Lord Jesus is coming back and all His enemies will be humbled or put under His feet, with death as the last enemy to be destroyed (1 Cor. 15:26).

In the meantime, we will see the world getting darker and darker. But as believers, we do not need to live in fear. Our trust is in our Lord Jesus. We are in this world, but we are not of this world (John 17:16).

There is a very real and active fowler that is setting up snares. Even as I write this, I’m reading and hearing reports of bombs going off, shootings, a commercial airplane crashing upon landing, and viral outbreaks in different parts of the world.

In the natural, this can be extremely disheartening. But don’t forget that we have a Savior who is even more real, and He has promised to deliver us from the snare of the fowler and from perilous pestilences.

The bottom-line is, we need to realize how much we need our Savior and His protection daily. We need to involve the Lord Jesus in our lives every day. Only He can deliver us and keep us safe!

Today’s Scripture
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters.
Psalm 23:2, NIV

Balanced
It’s interesting how often we feel that we can somehow defy the natural laws of living a balanced life and still expect to feel good. When you feel the blahs, you need to get in an environment that’s uplifting. Don’t come home from work and sit in a dark house, watch sad movies, listen to sad music, think sad thoughts, eat sad food, and hang around sad people. Open the shades and let some light in. Put on some inspiring music. Go outside and take a walk and get some fresh air. Get some exercise and shake off the sedentary lifestyle. Get your endorphins kicking in. God has put certain hormones in us that give us a boost and make us feel more passionate when we activate them. They help take the negativity away. You need proper sleep, and you need to eat healthy.

Practical steps can help keep us being passionate and having the energy and vision that we should. You’re only going to find it when you’re living balanced, when the Good Shepherd is leading you in the way you should live.

A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You for giving me my body to live in and to care for as a temple of Your Holy Spirit. Thank You that You made me to work and be productive as well as to rest and to laugh. Help me keep myself healthy and living a balanced life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Jesus gives you His shalom to set you up for success in life. You cannot be a success in your marriage, family, and career when you are crippled and paralyzed with fear.

Today, as you are reading this, I believe with all my heart that Jesus has already begun a work in your heart to liberate you from all your fears, whatever they may be. They may be the fear of failure, the fear of success, the fear of people’s opinions of you, or even the fear that God is not with you.

All the fears that you are experiencing in your life today began with an untruth, a lie that you have somehow believed. Perhaps you have believed that God is angry and displeased with you, and that His presence is far from you.

That’s why the Bible says, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”

This scripture tells us that when you begin to have a revelation that God loves you perfectly (not because of what you have accomplished, but because of what Jesus has accomplished for you), that revelation of the unmerited favor of Jesus will cast out every fear, every lie, every anxiety, every doubt, and every worry that God is against you. The more you have a revelation of Jesus and how He has made you perfect, the more you will free yourself to receive His complete shalom and succeed in life!

My friend, know that as a believer in Jesus Christ, you have absolute peace with God. The new covenant of grace is also known as the covenant of peace. Today, you stand upon the righteousness of Jesus and not your own. Today, because of Jesus, God says this to you: “I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke [condemn] you. For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, but My kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of peace be removed” (Isa. 54:9–10).

God is on your side. Jesus’ shalom is on your side to make you a success in life. All of heaven’s resources are on your side.

Even if you are caught in the midst of a storm right now, just think of the picture of the eagle chicks sleeping soundly in spite of the storm, nestled under the wings of their mother, their protector and provider. And may the shalom of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard your heart and mind through Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:7). Go in this peace, my friend, and rest upon His shalom!

When you change the way you see yourself and God, you will see changes in your negative circumstances.

When you change the way you see yourself and God, you will see changes in your negative circumstances.

A lady from Tennessee discovered this when she was about to give up on her failing graphic design business. Around that time, she was given my book, Destined to Reign, which completely changed the way she saw herself and her career.

She said, “My mindset about myself, and more importantly, how much God loves me through Jesus Christ, began to change. I began to believe and see that Jesus is my success, that it’s not my career that makes me a success . . . Within two months, I began to see my business turn around. Six months down the road, business is booming—I am receiving royalties each month that I never dreamed I would get!”

Beloved, believe that you are greatly, immeasurably loved by your Father in heaven, and you can’t help but see His goodness in your life!

My friend, God so loved His Son, but He so loved you too, that He was willing to give up His Son for you. That’s how much He loves you! And if God was willing to give you heaven’s best—Jesus—do you think that He will withhold anything good from you?

God is a good God. He is a God of love. But we will never know how much God loves us until we know how much He loves Jesus, because He gave us Jesus, His beloved Son.

Do you remember the story of Abraham in Genesis 22? Abraham’s heart must have been broken when he led his one and only promised son, Isaac, up Mount Moriah to be sacrificed. But in the end, Isaac did not have to die because God provided a substitute—a ram.

The ram caught in the thicket was really a picture of Jesus, who would one day be arrested, and led up Mount Calvary to be crucified in our place for our sins.

My friend, God so loved His Son, but He so loved you too, that He was willing to give up His Son for you. That’s how much He loves you! And if God was willing to give you heaven’s best—Jesus—do you think that He will withhold anything good from you?
