STRIKE LOOMS AS ASUU BEGINS NATIONWIDE CONSULTATION ON AGREEMENTS IMPLEMENTATION DELAY

05/02/24

OLADIPO DG

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has started a Nationwide consultation with its members on the next line of action, following the failure of Government to implement certain agreements.

ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, made this known at the Federal Umiversity of Technology, Minna Niver State, at the start of the consultations.

The ASUU President said the Federal Government has not implemented all the agreements it reached with the organised labour, particularly between ASUU, since the administration of President Bola Tinubu was inaugurated in May 2023.

Osodeke said the Nationwide consultation with members of the branche union is to enable them take a decision on the next line of action later in the month of February.

Professor Osodeke expressed regrets that despite the gentlemen agreement between the union and the Federal Government, no dime had been paid to its members, thereby creating unnecessary hardship for their families.

GOSPEL CORNER: WHEN YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE GREATLY BLESSED, HIGHLY FAVORED, AND DEEPLY LOVED, YOU DON’T HAVE TO DEPEND ON YOUR SELF-EFFORTS.

05/02/24

When you know that you are greatly blessed, highly favored, and deeply loved, you don’t have to depend on your self-efforts. Look at the story of Esther, for example.

When King Ahasuerus was looking for a new queen, the most beautiful women in the land were all brought into the palace. All the women were given the opportunity to adorn themselves with whatever they desired from the women’s quarters before they were brought for an audience with the king.

But when it was Esther’s turn, she “requested nothing but what Hegai the king’s eunuch, the custodian of the women, advised.” And look at the results: “Esther obtained favor in the sight of all who saw her,” and the king “loved Esther more than all the other women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins; so he set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen” (Est. 2:17).

While the other women grabbed the best garments, perfumes, and accessories to beautify themselves, Esther did not rely on her own abilities but submitted herself to Hegai, the official who had been appointed by the king to oversee the women. There was so much wisdom and humility in her decision.

Can you see the beauty of Esther? She did not trust in her own efforts. While the women tried to outdo one another by relying on their own efforts, Esther wisely submitted to the one person who would know the king’s preferences best, and the results speak for themselves.

This incident also demonstrates to us that Esther depended entirely upon the Lord’s unmerited favor. (When you depend entirely upon the Lord’s unmerited favor, you are trusting Him and in a position of rest.)

Esther did not have to struggle. When she rested in the Lord and humbled herself, the Lord promoted her and exalted her above all the other beautiful women.

God resists the proud and gives unmerited favor to the humble (1 Pet. 5:5). When you humble yourself and cease from your efforts to promote yourself, and depend on Jesus alone, the Lord Himself will be your promotion and increase. Like Esther, you will stand out in a crowd and obtain grace and favor with God and man.

Do you know why the story of Esther is so important? Read the details in the book of Esther. Because Esther was promoted to become the queen, she was in a favored position to protect all the Jewish people in the kingdom from being killed.

When the Lord promotes you, He gives you the influence to be a blessing to the people around you. There are no coincidences, only God-incidents. The Lord will bless you to be a blessing!

GOSPEL CORNER: NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE, THE LORD IS WITH YOU. EVEN IN THE MIDST OF YOUR FEARS, WHILE YOU ARE ALONE IN YOUR ROOM, HE IS THERE WITH YOU.

04/02/24

Have you been in a situation where your circumstances appear to be completely hopeless? Where you felt immobilized and overwhelmed by the challenges surrounding you, with no way out or even a temporary respite in sight? Perhaps under the accumulated weight of it all coming against you at once, you feel as if your entire life is spiraling out of control and falling apart.

That is exactly what happened to King Jehoshaphat and the small tribe of Judah when they were besieged on all fronts by three powerful and bloodthirsty armies rapidly advancing toward Jerusalem (2 Chron. 20). With their enemies mercilessly bent on annihilating them and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, they were facing a forlorn and hopeless situation, and it looked as though they were bound for a tragic end.

When Jehoshaphat was informed that a great multitude was coming against him, his first reaction was fear! I don’t know about you, but this gives me hope!

I’m so glad that the Word of God gives us an authentic portrait of who Jehoshaphat was. He wasn’t a valiant warrior king who was always full of faith and endowed with a disproportionate dose of fiery courage, always ready to take down his enemies. No, he was a regular guy. He did what you and I would have done—he panicked.

But what set Jehoshaphat apart was that even when he was fearful, the very first thing he did was to “set himself to seek the LORD” (2 Chron. 20:3). That is something you and I need to learn to do as well whenever we are fearful.

Instead of spiraling deeper into the abyss of self-defeat, know that when you are feeling overwhelmed by your circumstances, that is the time you need to set yourself to seek the Lord. It’s certainly not the time to run away from God or get bitter, angry, frustrated, and disappointed with Him.

Hey, God is not the author of your troubles. He is the author and finisher of your faith, victory, and success.

Jesus is your answer! His perfect love for you will cast out all fear.

Jehoshaphat shows us that it’s quite all right to experience bouts of fear from time to time. God doesn’t condemn you when you are afraid. But when you receive a negative medical report or some bad news about your family or business, set yourself to seek the Lord.

The moment you begin to be aware of His presence and cultivate His presence, all your fears, anxieties, and worries will melt like butter on a hot day, or as the psalmist David puts it, “The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the LORD.”

You cannot psych yourself out of fear nor can you psych yourself out of worry. You can’t just tell yourself, “Come on, stop worrying. There is nothing to worry about.” It just doesn’t work.

The debt will still be staring you in your face and your problems will still be as insurmountable as ever no matter how hard you try to psych yourself up. That is what the world is trying to do, but it does not work. It takes the presence of the Lord to keep you free from worry.

SECTION TWO
No matter where you are, the Lord is with you. Even in the midst of your fears, while you are alone in your room, He is there with you.

Jesus is not asking you to psych yourself up and live in a state of denial. No way! He is saying to you, “In the midst of your affliction, I am your shield. I am your defender. I am your fortress. I am your refuge. I am your supply. I am your healing. I am your provider. I am your peace. I am your joy. I am your wisdom. I am your strength. I am the glory and the lifter of your head” (Ps. 3:3)!

He is not asking you to pretend that the facts are not there. He wants you to realize that HE IS THERE WITH YOU!

When you know that He is with you and for you, and you put your problems in His mighty hands, you will begin to get a more accurate evaluation of just how “big” your problems are. When they were in your hands, the weight and burden of your problems may have crushed you. But when you involve Jesus, the once-monumental problems become microscopic against the largeness of His love and goodness toward you!

Today, as you consider all that you need to do and the expectations placed on you, see Jesus there with you. He is your supply, wisdom, peace, and strength.

GOSPEL CORNER: “THE FATHER SAID, ‘QUICK, BRING ME THE BEST ROBE, MY VERY OWN ROBE, AND I WILL PLACE IT ON HIS SHOULDERS. BRING THE RING, THE SEAL OF SONSHIP, AND I WILL PUT IT ON HIS FINGER. AND BRING OUT THE BEST SHOES YOU CAN FIND FOR MY SON.

TODAY’S WORD

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“The father said, ‘Quick, bring me the best robe, my very own robe, and I will place it on his shoulders. Bring the ring, the seal of sonship, and I will put it on his finger. And bring out the best shoes you can find for my son. Let’s prepare a great feast and celebrate.”
Luke 15:22–23, TPT

IT’S WITH YOUR FATHER
The prodigal son returned home filthy dirty with hog manure after wasting his father’s inheritance through wild living. Yet when he returned, today’s Scripture recounts his father’s response. The same is true for us when we’ve gone off course and made a mess of our lives. Despite what you’ve done, God has a robe of honor waiting for you. It’s not in the hog pen; it’s with your Father. He has a family ring that restores all the authority of sonship. It’s not in the hog pen; it’s with your Father. He has the best shoes for you. They’re not in the hog pen; they’re with your Father. He has a fatted calf and feast. They’re not in the hog pen; they’re with your Father.

When you’ve gotten off course, it’s easy to stay in the hog pen condemning yourself when God has a fatted calf out in the field with your name on it. He wants to not just receive you back but restore what’s been lost—your honor, your reputation, your joy. Arise and go to your Father.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
“Father, thank You that You forgive me, imperfect as I am, and that every mistake I’ve made has already been paid for by Jesus on the cross. Thank You for Your heart of restoring love and mercy for all that I’ve lost or that’s been taken. I believe that You robe me in Your righteousness and favor. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

GOSPEL CORNER: AND SARAH SAID, “GOD HAS MADE ME LAUGH, AND ALL WHO HEAR WILL LAUGH WITH ME.”GENESIS 21:6, NKJV

TODAY’S WORD

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
And Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me.”
Genesis 21:6, NKJV

THE SECOND LAUGH
In Genesis 18, when Sarah heard God promise that she would have a son at the age of ninety, she had laughed in disbelief. In today’s Scripture, she laughed again as she held her baby in her arms. Abraham even named him Isaac, which means “laughter.” This time, having seen the fulfillment of the promise, Sarah laughed in pure amazement, thinking, “Wow, God! I never dreamed this could happen. I can’t believe how merciful You are to bring me a miracle baby in spite of my lack of faith.”

You may have laughed in unbelief, thinking you could never get well, never get out of debt, or never break an addiction, but I believe your second laugh is coming. Things that have held you back in the past and limited you are being broken. You’re going to see influence, resources, talent coming out in ways you never dreamed. Problems that look permanent are about to suddenly turn around. You’re going to laugh in amazement and be overjoyed and full of wonder, thinking, “Wow, God! Look how You’ve shown out in my life.”

A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You for the things You’ve put into my heart that seem laughable and that I have to dare to believe can happen. Thank You that You do what seems too good to be true. I’m going to stay in faith and look forward to laughing in amazement. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

SECTION TWO

God is a God of forgiveness. He knows you perfectly and still loves you perfectly. We are slaves to the idea that if someone sees our flaws, they won’t love us anymore. Well, while that may be true in human relationships, God is not like that.

God sees all our imperfections, failings, and flaws on Jesus at the cross. Our sins and ugliness do not turn Him off. In fact, to Him they are occasions to demonstrate His grace and forgiveness through the blood of His Son, who has removed all our sins efficaciously at Calvary.

So don’t be embarrassed about your flaws, mistakes, and imperfections. God knows your weaknesses better than you do, and He loves you just the same.

His Word reminds us that Jesus is not someone “who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses.” Instead, Jesus was tempted in all points, yet He was without sin (Heb. 4:15).

He understands every temptation and every trial that you are going through. He is not disappointed with you, and He is not waiting for you to live up to a set of dos and don’ts before He forgives and loves you.

The Bible says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him” (Rom. 5:8–9).

Did you get that? When did God love you?

That’s right, when you were still a sinner. Before you even knew Him, when you were still in sin, He already loved you. How much more today, when you have been cleansed by Jesus’ blood and made righteous!

Having received Jesus’ righteousness, you are righteous forever. Even when you fall into sin, your sins don’t make you a sinner again.

When you fall short today, you are still the righteousness of God. This is because your righteousness comes from Jesus.

In the same way that a beautiful butterfly cannot morph back into a caterpillar, once you have been made righteous by the blood of Jesus, you cannot morph back into a sinner. Knowing your righteous identity in Him then gives you the power to overcome every sin, every addiction, and every bad habit!

HOW A SCHOOL GIRL RESCUED A DYING YOUNG MAN

02/02/24

Dr Olabisi .0.Denis

A moment of panic unfolded near Elect Nursery and Primary School, on Olorunlogbon Street, Opposite Anthony Village Central Mosque, Anthony Village, in Lagos on Wednesday 31st January,2024 as a Cart Pusher collapsed .

Onlookers hesitated, fearing police involvement, while others speculated about a potential drug overdose or asthma attack. Amid the confusion, a school girl , from Anthony Village High School exiting a Keke Napep ( Tricycle) took swift action. Retrieving her inhaler from her school bag, she administered it to the fallen man. Miraculously, he revived, turning what seemed like a dire situation into a life-saving encounter. In the face of adversity, the school girl emerged as an angel in human form, a beacon of hope in a moment of need.

That’s how a dead man was brought to life by this school girl

I have heard of people dying in such a circumstance before as a result of their not getting immediate help, but I have not witnessed it until this day.

A lot of lessons to learn in this life saving account. What would have happened if the man was fighting with anyone before this incident happened? What would have happened if the girl didn’t help? There are lots of ifs running in my brain. It’s good to learn from this account as there are so many moving corpses on our roads we don’t know. Let’s be careful and learn from others!

All Asthma Patients are enjoined to move about putting their inhalers in their pockets or bags because of any attack. This school girl taught us a big lesson of life.

May such acts of kindness continue to bless individuals and nations in times of travail. Amen. 🙏
