Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Abuja from London, where he has been for about two weeks

The President who came back on Tuesday evening, was received by his Chief of Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello.

President Buhari had travelled to the United Kingdom on May 3, for the Coronation of King Charles III, which took place on Saturday May 6th

After that, he extended his stay for one week, to honour an appointment with his Dentist.

The President is expected to preside over a meeting of the Executive Council of the Federation Wednesday.

Our Correspondent reports that over 60 memoranda are to be treated by the council during the meeting.

EFCC DISOCIATES SELF FROM FAKE RECRUITMENT PORTAL.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has disociated it’s self from what it calls a spurious recruitment portal with the address of http://www.efcc.gov.ng/efcc/,careers notifying all eligible applicants of a scheduled employment drive starting from May 23, 2023.

The Commission which said this in a Statement signed by it Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren explained that it has no such recruitment portal and neither is there any employment schedule at the moment.

It advices member of the public to ignore the recruitment portal and warned Promoters of such employment scam to desist from their fraudulent schemes or risk arrest and prosecution by the Commission.

FOUR KILLED AS GUNMEN ATTACK US EMBASSY OFFICIALS IN ANAMBRA

Four staff members of the United States Embassy in Nigeria on a humanitarian Mission in Anambra State have been shot dead following an attack on their vehicle on Tuesday.

The incident happened late on Tuesday in the Amiyi/Eke Ochuche communities in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state.

No reason has yet been ascertained, but a source in the area said the assailants ambushed and immediately gunned down the victims.

The assailants caused panic in the area as they invaded the arena where some of the residents in the community had gathered and were waiting to receive medical treatment from the UNICEF officials.

The source said, “They were ambushed, and about four of them were gunned down, while others sustained various degrees of injuries as they escaped with their vehicle that has the inscription, UNICEF.

The US mission Nigeria also confirmed the incident, saying its personnel were collaborating with Nigerian security operatives to get to the root of the matter.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF RESIDENT DOCTORS DECLARES 5-DAY WARNING STRIKE

The National Association of Resident Doctors has declared a five-day warning strike effective Wednesday May 17, 2023, to press for the immediate increment in the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, amounting to 200 per cent of the current gross salary of doctors and new allowances.

President of the association Emeka orji who said this at a news briefing explained that since January till date no meeting has held between the association and the federal government while no major steps have been taken to resolve the issues raised by doctors in the country.

Orji told the conference that the strike may become indefinite if nothing is done within the period of the warning strike to pay them their 2023 Medical Residency Training Fund as agreed between both parties at a meeting convened by the Federal Ministry of Health.

Other demands by the doctors include immediate commencement of payment of all salary arrears owed members, including 2014, 2015 and 2016 arrears, as well as consequential adjustment of the minimum wage.

The resident doctors say the issue of brain drain in the nation is worrisome and must be tackled.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Adeyinka Olumide- Fusika in a statement, Tuesday said the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Benjamin Hundeyin whom claimed he doubles as the investigative police officer refused to send the file containing the report of his investigation for legal evaluation but made it a subject of media publication.

Fusika who further alleged that the decision of the police to handcuff Kuti and subject him to media parade is illegal and violates Section 5 of the Administration of Criminal Justice law, added that the singer is presumed innocent till contrary proven by the state.

Fusika added that though Seun Kuti reported to the station by himself by 8am on Monday morning, he didn’t give his statement till 8pm.

Lagos State Police PRO, Benjamin Hundeyin, however said the state Criminal Investigation Department is handling the investigation and not him.

He further added that Kuti arrived at the SCID by 12pm, Monday and was not at any point denied from making his statement adding that he made his statement by 8pm which was the convenient time for the police.

Son of Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti had alleged via Instagram that the police officer threatened his life and that of his family.

Speaking about the details of the case, Hundeyin said that after altercations between the singer and the police officer, Kuti gave the officer twelve thousand naira to repair damages on his vehicle after the officer followed him to his house.

Hundeyin added that the officer had reported the matter to the Area F command where he equally deposited the twelve thousand naira before the video showing Kuti went viral on social media.

When asked if the police intend to obtain a court order to detain Kuti further beyond the stipulated period for holding a suspect, since the suspect had been in custody for about twenty four hours in custody, Police spokesperson said he cannot disclose the plans of the police as regards that.

The incident according information gathered happened at about 4 pm on Monday.

There was, however, no casualty as no one was in the car when the accident happened.

According to The spokesperson of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Taofiq Adebayo, who confirmed the incident said, it occurred as a result of brake failure.

Adebayo Said The truck was moving inward Dopemu when its brake failed. The driver lost control in the process and later fell on a red Toyota Camry parked by the roadside. There was one in the car when it happened.

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians against the use of PrimeZen Black 6000mg, a male performance enhancement capsule, recalled from the market.

The agency’s recall is contained in a public alert with No. 015/2023, signed by its Director-General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, and issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, on Sunday.

Adeyeye said that Volt Candy is voluntarily recalling the one lot of PrimeZen Black 6000mg capsule alongside its 2000mg, due to undeclared ingredients they were made of by their manufacturer in America.

“The recall followed the analysis of Food and Drug Agency (FDA) of the United States of America, an FDA, which found the PrimeZen capsules to contain undeclared tadalafil and sildenafil.

Sildenafil and tadalafil are phosphodiesterase (PDE-5) inhibitors found in FDA-approved products for the treatment of male erectile dysfunction.

“The presence of sildenafil and tadalafil in PrimeZen Black 6000mg capsules renders them unapproved drugs for which safety and efficacy have not been established and, therefore, subject to recall.

Risk Statement, PrimeZen Black 6000 capsules containing sildenafil and tadalafil may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs (such as nitroglycerin) and may cause a significant drop in blood pressure that may be life-threatening.

“People with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease often take nitrates.

Among the adult male population who are most likely to use these products, adult males who use nitrates for cardiac conditions are most at risk from these products,” she said.

According to her, “The product details are as follows; PrimeZEN Black 6000 male enhancement capsules, manufactured by Volt Candy, 324 S. Diamond Bar Blvd #212, USA.”

The NAFDAC boss said that the lot Number: NPINPB 1003, UPC code: 728175521891, expiration date is Aug. 16, 2025, for PrimeZen Black 6000mg being marketed online as a dietary supplement for male enhancement and is packaged in a blister card with one capsule.null

Adeyeye added that the product can be identified by the card color in black with the name on it PrimeZen Black 6000.

“NAFDAC hereby implores members of the public in possession of the above product to stop the sale or use, as well as handover the product to stop the sale or use, as well as handover the product to the nearest agency office,” she said.

The DG appealed to those who have the falsified product, to “please DO NOT use it.”

“If you, or someone you know, have used the product, or suffered any adverse reaction after use, please seek immediate medical advice,” she advised.

She also advised healthcare professionals and consumers to report any suspicion of adverse drug reactions, or substandard and falsified medicines to the nearest NAFDAC office.

The Minister Of Aviation Hadi Sirika has promised that the National Air Carrier will Fly before the end of President Buhari’s Administration.

He made this clarification while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by the vice-president, Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“Regarding Nigeria Air, yes, we are on course; and by the Grace of God, before President Muhammadu Buhari leaves office, it will fly.

“We are on course; before May 29, Nigeria Air will fly,” he said

The minister said that something crucial had happened in the aviation industry with FEC’s approval of the Aviation Leasing Company.

He said the council also approved the sum of ₦3.5 billion for a contract for photometric and taxiway lights for Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt airports.

“Something very significant has happened in the world of civil aviation; part of our road map, the Aviation Leasing Company has been established and approved by the council.

“Therefore, operators in civil aviation will have access to this equipment at an affordable rate and within our country, Nigeria; this is part of the roadmap. So, the roadmap is gradually coming to 100% completion.

“Second memo was an award of contract for the procurement and installation of taxiway lights and photometric pattern for Port Harcourt, Lagos, Abuja and some other equipment all over the country.

The total sum of the contract for photometric and taxiway light is ₦3.5 billion with 7.5% VAT and 12 months completion period,” he said.
