The World Health Organization, WHO has declared the Monkey Pox outbreak a global health emergency.

The WHO Director General, Tedros Ghebreyesus Has declared Monkey Pox As A Global Health Emergency after the end of a second meeting of the global health body’s Emergency Committee. He said the virus had caused five fatalities, caused not less than 16,000 cases, and had spread to 75 countries.

The WHO chief said the Committee classification is the highest alert that the WHO can issue.

“The WHO’s assessment is that the risk of monkey pox is moderate globally and in all regions, except in the European region, where we assess the risk as high,”

Tedros said the need for a speed up of vaccine development and the implementation of measures to limit the spread of the virus, galvanized the decision to declare the emergency.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority NCAA has suspended indefinitely Dana Air flight operations.

The Authority suspended the Airline’s Air Transport Licence ATL, as well as its Air Operator Certificate AOC indefinitely.

The suspension by the Director General of NCAA Capt Musa Nuhu had been communicated to the airline and the suspension takes effect from midnight 20th Jul 2022

The decision is the outcome of a financial and economic health audit carried out on the airline by the NCAA and the findings of an investigation conducted on the airlines flight operations recently which revealed that Dana Air is unable to meet its financial obligations and to conduct safe flight operations

According to the statement by NCAA the decision is the outcome of a financial and economic health audit carried out on the Airline by the Authority, and the findings of an investigation conducted on the Airline’s flight operations recently.

It said that these revealed that Dana Airlines was no longer in a position to meet its financial obligations and conduct safe flight operations.

“The NCAA acknowledges the negative effect this preemptive decision will have on the Airline’s passengers and the travelling public and seeks their understanding, as the safety of flight operations takes priority over all other considerations,” the statement said.

The Airline has acknowledged the receipt of the suspension.

Meanwhile Passengers bailed to travel with the Airline have been on rampage at the local wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos over flight suspension

Bread makers in Nigeria Plans to shut down Operations nationwide For four days from 21st July 2022 due to the incessant increase in the prices of baking materials and diesel in the country.

The President Premium Breadmakers Association of Nigeria (PBAN), Emmanuel Onuorah in a press statement Wednesday said in the first instance and where no intervention from the government , the Operators shall escalate the duration of the withdrawal.

Onuorah added that Bakeries are mostly running on huge losses and this is no longer sustainable.

Operators are also Requesting for the Federal Government to stop charging 15% Wheat development levy on wheat import and NAFDAC to review downwards the 154,000 naira penalty charged bakeries on late renewal of certificates.

They want government to Grant members access to grants and soft loans and Stoppage of multi – agencies regulation of the bread making industry.

Bread which is major staple food for Nigerians in the past few months has continued to go out of the reach of the common Man Due to High Cost of Production

TANKER EXPLOSION @ APAPA

A petroleum tanker Has burst into flames inside the Mechanic village located at Otto Wharf by Signals Barracks, Nigerian Army , mile 2 axis of Lagos state.

The tanker which was said to have exploded at about 3.44pm Tuesday was laden with diesel when it exploded inside the Mechanic village.

Though there were no casualties resulting from the incident as emergency responders from both the federal and state fire services including officials from the National Emergency Management Agency ( NEMA) and Lagos state emergency management Agency(LASEMA) rushed to the scene of the incident to contain the fire from spreading any further .

Meanwhile there is an allegation of careless operations of a panel beater welding under a truck nearby that ignited the spark which resulted to the explosion.

Dana Makes Emergency Landing At Abuja Airport

A Boeing 737 Aircraft belonging to Dana Air this Tuesday made an emergency landing on approach to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja

The incident occurred following an indication in one of its engines

All the 100 passengers disembarked safely.

The Aircraft with registration number, 5N DNA embarked on an emergency landing on Tuesday, 19th July 2022, owing to an indication on one of its engines as The pilot in command briefed the passengers on the incident and landed the aircraft safely at the Abuja International Airport at about 2:52 pm.

All the Hundred air passengers disembarked safely while the airline operators ground the aircraft for immediate attention by the team of engineers as The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA has also been briefed on the incident.

The incident Came two months after a similar involving one of the aircraft operated by the airlines occurred at the airport in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

The aircraft with registration number 5N JOY was set to take off from Port Harcourt to Lagos on May 2 when its tyres caught fire, forcing a planned trip to Lagos to be aborted.

Giving an explanation on the incident, the airline had said the pilot in command noticed an anomaly before take-off which he queried with the Air Traffic Control before embarking on a ramp return as all 50 passengers were unhurt and disembarked safely and the airplane was grounded immediately.

Aero Contractors airline shuts down operations temporarily

Nigeria’s oldest domestic airline Contractors says it will temporarily suspend its scheduled passenger services operations with effect from Wednesday July 20, 2022.

The management of Aero Contractors in a statement announcing the suspension said the past few months have been very challenging for the aviation industry and the airline operations In particular.

According to the management the decision was carefully considered and taken due to the fact that most of their aircraft are currently undergoing maintenance, resulting In their inability to offer seamless and efficient service to their customers.

They however disclosed that they are working to bring those aircraft back to service In the next few weeks so as to continue to offer safe efficient and reliable service to their customers.

The Airline apologizes

to their passengers for this inconvenience this may cause them,but added that they are working assiduously to return to service as quickly as possible

The Airline further disclosed that the temporary suspension of scheduled flight operations does not in any way affect the Maintenance activities of the Approved Maintenance Organisation, AMO, as well as the Approved Training organisation, and Helicopter and charter service operations

This move by Aero Contractors Airline is a clear indication that some domestic airlines in the country are struggling to survive because of the many challenges they are faced with which include the persistent scarcity of aviation fuel and other operational hiccups they are faced with.

Popular Nollywood actress Adah Ameh is dead.

She died on Sunday in Warri Delta state

Her dead comes barely 2 years after she lost her only daughter

She has recently been talking about her struggles with mental illness.

It is not clear what the cause of death is at the moment. Ameh has featured in several movies and is one of the very popular faces in the industry

The industry has also lost Solape Onayiga who was a popular face on the comedy series Fuji House of Commotion. The cause of death is yet unknown but sources say she’s been ill for sometime and has been living with sickle cell anemia.

Nollywood Actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka James, also known as Baba Ijesha has been sentenced to sixteen years in prison over allegations of sexual assault and indecent treatment of a minor brought against the defendant by the Lagos state government.

Presiding Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, while delivering judgement Thursday, noted that the prosecution while unable to proof it’s case on sexual assault by penetration against the defendant, however declared that a case of indecent treatment against a minor was proved beyond reasonable doubt against the defendant .

Baba Ijesha is facing a six count Charge of Child Defilement that includes indecent treatment of a Child, Sexual Assault, attempted and sexual Assault by Penetration.
