*The Solution Is here For You.*

Easter is a period for sober reflection and ultimate sacrifices in line with what God did to save humanity. Across Anambra State, we celebrate the gift and essence of Easter. Many towns, villages and families will use the period to hold meetings to up the ante in their development index.

Luckily for us all is the coming on stream of a government that is bold in seeking solutions for the plethora of challenges facing our state. Take for instance, the development model suitable for the state. It took into cognisance the small land mass of the state which is further threatened by erosion and flooding in arriving at s decision. It further considered local percularities and global trends and opted for the use of smart technologies to improve the quality of life of our people.

Now the administration. envisions a liveable and prosperous smart Megacity that will be holistically developed. It was on this basis that Anambra people overwhelmingly voted it to control the commanding heights of the machinery of governance. Within the first one month in the life of the administration, it has shown a propensity for facing tough and daunting challenges. it is upgrading Okpoko and Onitsha and steadily unknotting the intricate security challenges in the state.

What however is certain is that in the next months or years, we will witness the footprints of The Solution across the length and breath of the state, putting the smiles on the faces of those not smiling. Meanwhile, enjoy your Easter.

Be of good cheers

Canada Condemn Attack on Ukraine

Canada has charged The World to Resist Russian Aggression against Ukraine

This was contained in a press statement released on Thursday in Abuja by the acting high commissioner in Nigeria Kevin Tokar and made available to the Press

The Canadian government in strong terms condemned President Putin’s unjustifiable and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

The commissioner held that Putin has launched the largest military invasion of any European country since World War II and has shattered peace and security in Europe.

The statement also held that Putin has shown a brazen disregard for human life, with his attack resulting in the senseless deaths of innocent people and a large-scale humanitarian crisis.

Tokar noted that This is not just an attack on Ukraine but an attack on international law, including the UN Charter, as well as democracy, freedom, and human rights.

He said The consequences of Russia’s actions will extend well beyond Ukraine’s borders.
In launching this war, Russia is seeking to destroy the freedom of a people and overthrow the democratically elected government of a sovereign nation.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has stated clearly that President Putin’s military offensive is a severe violation of the UN Charter and has implored President Putin to cease his war on Ukraine.

The statement further held that Russia’s invasion is also having immediate effects on people around the world. For example, the spike in global oil prices caused by this invasion will exacerbate current fuel challenges in Nigeria, while the growing challenges and costs of producing and importing wheat will further drive up the cost of food.

The rising cost of bread and fuel is something that every Nigerian, in every walk of life, will feel.
He therefore urged every world citizen to act immediately with one global voice to condemn President Putin’s aggressive actions And hold the Russian leadership under President Putin’s command to account.

Earlier this month the Governments of Canada and Nigeria, together with 139 other countries at the UN General Assembly on March 2, sent a clear message that President Putin’s invasion of Ukraine is unacceptable and that the world is united against it.

WORLD GLAUCOMA WEEK: LAGOS HOLDS AWARENESS WALK, FREE EYE PRESSURE CHECK

LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT

MINISTRY OF HEALTH

PRESS RELEASE

WORLD GLAUCOMA WEEK: LAGOS HOLDS AWARENESS WALK, FREE EYE PRESSURE CHECK

· Warns Citizens Against Patronizing Quacks

· Advocates Regular Eye Checks

Lagos State Government has warned citizens to avoid patronizing unqualified eye health care personnel and quacks while seeking eye health care services. This is just as the State government advocated the need for regular eye checks to prevent irreversible blindness that may be caused by Glaucoma and other blinding conditions.

Speaking after an Awareness Walk organized by the State Ministry of Health to commemorate the Year 2022 World Glaucoma Week in Lagos State, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye explained that patronage of unqualified eye health professionals for eye care services is inimical to the efforts being made by government and relevant stakeholders to reduce the prevalence of avoidable blinding eye conditions.

Ogboye noted that the theme of the Year 2022 World Glaucoma Week – “The World is Bright Save Your Sight”, brings to fore the need for citizens to take responsibility and good care of their eyes to prevent vision impairment and irreversible blindness which is caused by Glaucoma and other blinding eye conditions.

He said: “The eye is a very delicate organ in the body that requires proper attention and treatment by licensed eye healthcare professionals. The eye is such a precious gift to all human beings and it is something we must pay particular attention to.

“I would say to anybody that patronizes quacks for their eye health care needs to make a re-evaluation of how important their eyes are. I know how important my eyes are to me, and I definitely won’t be submitting it to just anybody to look at and I certainly won’t be inserting any fluid or drug that is not recommended”

Ogboye stated that the Awareness Walk organized by the Ministry of Health to commemorate this year’s World Glaucoma Week is targeted towards creating awareness and sensitizing the populace on the dangers of Glaucoma as a silent killer of the sight.

“Glaucoma is one of those blinding eye conditions that just creeps against you. You may not even be aware it is happening to you until you lose your sight. Glaucoma has to do with raised intraocular pressure which changes the shape of the eyeball in a way that forces it to detach from the nerve at the back of the eyes that transmits images through to the brain, and so ones that is detached, there is no way anybody can correct it.

“This is one case where prevention is much better than cure. And the best way to prevent it is to make sure you get your eyes pressure checked regularly, at least once a year. That helps you know whether the pressure in your eyes is high before you start to have advanced glaucoma, impaired vision or loss of vision”, he explained.

While restating the commitment of the present administration to reduction of avoidable blindness, Ogboye averred that the State Government will reinvigorate and promote eye health education as well increase access to eye care services across the State.

Speaking in the same vein, Consultant Ophthalmologist and Director, Medical Administration, Training and Programs in the Ministry of Health, Dr Funmilayo Shokunbi explained blindness caused by glaucoma is irreversible and has no cure but can be successfully managed if detected early enough.

Emphasizing the need for regular eye check as preventive measure against Glaucoma, Shokunbi noted that citizens who are over age 40, have family members with glaucoma, have high intraocular (eye) pressure or have had an eye injury or eye surgery are at risk of Glaucoma.

“Citizens who are farsighted or nearsighted, use long-term steroids medications, have diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, sickle cell anemia, poor blood circulation or other health problems affecting the whole body are also at risk of Glaucoma”, She added.

She disclosed that the Ministry of Health is organizing free eye screening and intraocular pressure checks for public servants including members of the Lagos State Executive Council, Body of Permanent Secretaries as well as civil servants as part of activities for the weeklong World Glaucoma commemoration in Lagos State.
