The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa has called on major oil producing companies in Nigeria to consider the introduction of advance cargo declaration on crude export as a measure to discourage the theft of Nigerian Crude oil.

Bawa who made the call when Members of Oil Producers Trade Section of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, LCCI paid a visit to the commission, expressed optimism that advance cargo declaration of crude export with unique tracking not will deter the theft of Nigerian crude at the export terminals but discourage off takers who would be unwilling to accept such cargoes.

He added that the measure was a part of the recommendations of a Committee that investigated the theft of Nigerian Crude in 2014 but was unfortunately never implemented. The EFCC’S Chairman challenged the oil Chiefs to revisit the recommendation as it could provide a silver lining to addressing the challenge of oil theft.

Bawa also expressed concerns that the total shut down of the Nigerian refineries had created a vacuum which illegal refiners were trying to fill through the production of adulterated Automotive Gas Oil, noting that, were the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited refineries to be operating even at 10% of capacity, it would have helped in reading demand pressures, while the illegal refiner would have less business.

The EFCC’S Chairman assured IOCs that the Commission is committed and willing to collaborate with all stakeholders both within and outside the country to bring an end to the oil theft challenge.

Speaking earlier, the Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria Limited and Chairman of OPTS, Rick Kennedy stated that they were at the EFCC to build relationships and seek ways of curbing the menace of crude oil theft in the industry as well as its impact on the environment and the economy.

According to the U.S. government, the changes are in line with the Department of State’s commitment to facilitating legitimate travel to the United States for both immigrant and non-immigrant travellers.

“These increases were published in the Federal Register on March 28, 2023, and will be effective on May 30, 2023.

“The fee for visitor visas for business or tourism (B1/B2s and BCCs), and other non-petition based NIVs such as student and exchange visitor visas, will increase from 160 dollars to 185 dollars,” it stated.

BREAKING NEWS: DSS CONFIRMS PLAN TO INSTALL GOVERNMENT

29/03/23

Shina J.O

The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed a plot “by some key players” to install an interim government and stop Bola Ahmed Tinubu from being inaugurated as president.

According to the DSS, the plot includes embarking on violent protests nationwide to engineer the declaration of a state of emergency as well as security frivolous court injunctions to stall the inauguration, the DSS said.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday, by Peter Afunanya, the public relations officer of the secret Police.

The read in part that, “The Department of State Services (DSS) has identified some key players in the plot for an Interim Government in Nigeria.
The Service considers the plot, being pursued by these entrenched interests, as not only an aberration but a mischievous way to set aside the constitution and undermine civil rule as well as plunge the country into an avoidable crisis.

The illegality is totally unacceptable in a democracy and to the peace loving Nigerians.
This is even more so that the machination is taking place after the peaceful conduct of the elections in most parts of the country.” End of quote.

There have been agitations for Tinubu, the president-elect, not to be inaugurated on May 29, 2023 based on complaints by his opponents of the presidential election.

Datti Baba-Ahmed, the vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), specifically called on President Muhammadu Buhari and Olukayode Ariwoola, the chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), not to inaugurate Tinubu, tagging it an “illegality”.

Some demonstrators also went to the defence headquarters building in Abuja on Tuesday to protest the outcome of the presidential election in what might be understood as an invitation for military intervention.

Afunanya alleged that some protests are being sponsored.
The planners, in their many meetings, have weighed various options, which include, among others, to sponsor endless violent mass protests in major cities to warrant a declaration of State of Emergency.
Another is to obtain frivolous court injunctions to forestall the inauguration of new executive administrations and legislative houses at the Federal and State levels.

Afunanya added that the DSS supports the President and Commander-in-Chief in his avowed commitment to a hitch-free handover and will assiduously work in this direction.
It also supports the Presidential Transition Council and such other related bodies in the States. It will collaborate with them and sister security and law enforcement agencies to ensure seamless inaugurations come 29th May, 2023.

Consequently, the Service strongly warns those organising to thwart democracy in the country to retract from their devious schemes and orchestrations.

Stakeholders, notably judicial authorities, media and the Civil Society, are enjoined to be watchful and cautious to avoid being used as instruments to subvert peace and stability of the nation.

While its monitoring continues, the DSS will not hesitate to take decisive and necessary legal steps against these misguided elements to frustrate their obnoxious intentions.

He said the trio are currently under investigation and would be prosecuted soon at the Federal High Court in Katsina.

Ibrahim also used the medium to sensitize parents and advocated for drug integrity results to be presented by would-be sons-in-law, before marriages are done, rather than be blinded by wealth.

They were found in a car belonging to a senior police officer.
